Not nearly as good as A Boy Named Charlie Brown

My main beef with this movie was the Sherman Brothers ("Mary Poppins") soundtrack. Without Vince Guaraldi, it doesn't sound or feel like all the other shows and movies of the series. I'm sure they were going for more of a "Disney" feel, because A Boy Named Charlie Brown was criticized for being "just a longer TV special, not a movie". Here, the audience is inundated with far too much music and singing, simply because Snoopy doesn't talk and is only occasionally able to communicate his thoughts.

While A Boy Named Charlie Brown poignantly summed up the series as the 1960s ended, Snoopy Come Home half-heartedly attempts an upbeat ending, but only after bringing a lot more anger, violence, and just plain dreariness along the way. The kidnapping scene/song with "Clara" was morbid and horrendous. While watching, I wondered if Schulz was going through his divorce when this was being worked on. Even though, like the first movie, this was based on stories from the actual comic strips, this was just the wrong way to move the characters into the 1970s. A Boy Named Charlie Brown is re-watchable; Snoopy Come Home isn't.

I agree. I would religiously watch all four of the Peanuts movies as a kid. In addition to the specials of course and last summer I introduced my daughter to the films in addition to the 2015 movies. And I still love them just as much now as an adult with the exception of this one.

It just feels mean spirited in spots, not a lot of humor, and overall, too depressing for a children's movie. Despite how much Lucy deserves the occasional kick in the ass, the boxing match scene was totally cringe. Has its moments but not one I care to revisit again.

Still think Boy Named Charlie Brown and Race for your life are best
