This movie makes me laugh

The background music didn't seem to match the action. Was the final confrontation between old man doctor and evil tough guy fought in knee deep molasses? "I'd be a frog, ribbittt!"

The preposterous storyline accompanied by the goofy music and bumbling cops makes it impossible to take the movie seriously. Just as you wouldn't consider the violence in, say, a Road Runner cartoon disturbing so you can't take it very seriously in this version of "Last House."

Dumb? Yes. An interesting early 70's curiosity? Yes. Disturbing? No.

The director & writers of the superb 2009 remake understood the blatant flaws of this original version because it overcame them all and is a near masterpiece of filmmaking.

And was the guy who played Junior the ugliest, dorkiest guy on the planet?

reply

I met that guy at a horror convention a couple of years ago and he hasn't changed much, but older. Lol

The score has to build suspense. This one was like it was made for a comedy. Baffling.

reply

That’s definitely my main complaint about this film.

reply

The score was awful. Suspenseful music (or hardly any music at all!) and no cartoonish comedy, like the cops, would definitely have improved the movie.

I need to rewatch this (haven't seen it in over a decade) but I do remember it having the goofy cops and comedic music.

Another film that suffered greatly from that was The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976). That film was so good but contains some of the most dated and not necessary comedy relief I've come across.

reply

haven't seen that one. I will check it out when I get a chance.

reply

it adds to the realism of the movie and its world,
goofy shit happens, violent shit happens, mundane shit happens,
that's life

reply

Well it worked, because it seemed real stupid.
