Ok for a 14 year old?

My 14-year-old daughter is a fan of horror movies....she likes the Saw movies, the Ring, Hostel, The Strangers, The Amityville Horror remake, etc. Disturbing, I know...but she likes to watch them, understands that they are only movies, and likes the special effects/makeup.

Is this movie ok for her to watch?

Also, does anyone have any other horror movies to recommend?
Any that I should make sure she stays away from?

I forgot to add that...I cannot STAND to watch horror movies. I'm a huge baby and am scared of my own shadow for weeks afterwards and the gore to too much for me...so I cannot screen these before letting her watch them.

You should NOT let your daughter see movies like that if she is only 14!!!!!

I would have to say that this is not a very good movie for her to watch to be honest with you.

I would let my daughter watch because I consider 14 to be old enough to handle adult material (if you're old enough to have babies, then you're an adult biologically-speaking). BUT the final decision would depend upon the specific teenager watching... if she's never seen nudity or sex films, then this is not the place to start. Try Romeo & Juliet instead.

No, for the love of god, dont. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most sadistic stories out there. Forced marriages, rape, murder, suicide, its got it all.

I WAS 14 and just turned 15 on February 13th, 2009. and I've always loved horror movies and I've seen worse than what she probably has. But anyway I recently saw this(yesterday) and it's not that bad. I WAS kind of disturbed in the sense that my stomach began to hurt and I wanted to like stop watching but it's only like that for certain scenes. Movies she should avoid? High Tension, that movie scarred me for life.

if you don't mind your 14 year old watching soft-core-fetish-porn then feel free.

Hey, how about you stop being a cretin and mind your own business? Clearly you don't have kids and have no idea how tough it is raising them. The fact that someone has a young teenage kid who's managed to watch some scary movies does NOT make them a bad parent.

Good reply Morbida.

Have you ever considered that that's exactly what this person is doing? At last a parent that cares enough to check up on what's OK for their children to watch or not. You have to realize that without having seen the movies before, asking, reading and checking up online is the BEST way to find out.

And I wouldn't have let a 14 year old watch this.

reply

Or you know, she could actually watch it for herself?

I bet the one talking about the internet being the best place to find out about stuff like this thinks internet dating is a good idea too.

Did you miss the part where OP said "I forgot to add that...I cannot STAND to watch horror movies. I'm a huge baby and am scared of my own shadow for weeks afterwards and the gore to too much for me...so I cannot screen these before letting her watch them."

There's nothing wrong with asking a question. And there's nothing wrong with getting second and third opinions.

This movie I wouldn't really classify as horror per se...but it has some pretty hard core rape scenes. I wouldn't let a 14 year old watch it.

Sometimes the difference between self-amusement and self-actualization is less than you think.

reply

Um....no.

reply

No, I thought this film was particularly raw... there is a couple rape scenes and at one point the murder pulls out one of the girls organs after stabbing her repeatedly. haha

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

This is a horrible "film." I wouldn't want my dog to watch this tripe.....let alone a 14 year old. I guess if you want to be a bad parent, then yes, let your kid watch this sick (for no other reason than shock value) and POORLY MADE piece of crap. There is nothing redeeming/redemptive/of value in this waste of celluloid and time. Anyone who contributed to this piece of dreck should be totally ashamed of themselves. It is devoid of any social value; the worst part is it really is just a study of how mean, cruel, sick, and vicious human white trash can be....... You want to see a girl forced to pee in her pants? You want to see 2 female victims forced to fondle each other at gunpoint/knifepoint? Then I think it says more about you and your own disturbing problems for even desiring to watch this crap.

I first "Snuck" into this movie when I was 16 years old.. I had always loved Loved Horror-Violent Movies So thought Id be ok with it.. At that time I can honestly say this is one of those movies that Really scared "The Crap out of me".. This is a Powerful, Not Always comfortable to watch movie, plenty of Violence and Very Disturbing Images in this Film... Now with the Remake HMMMM?? Might?? Be alright with a Teenage crowd?? I think? The remake might be toned down.? Then Again I havent seen it yet either? Just the Commercials..I now own both the old and New Version {Recently released Version} of this MOvie. Its still To me, though Disturbing is a Great Horror classic, Basiclly I love this movie..!! But A 14 yEAR Old might have some trouble absorbing some of the scenes? I guess it depends on your kid....

Thanks for the warning, "sexorcist6969" lol. I have to say though, watching America's Most Wanted is about the same thing. Having this kind of thing planted into a teenager's mind with parental guidance is much better than them being out on their own in an apartment and being introduced to things like this and making them no want to get out and go for a walk and talk to their neighbors.

Please, poison your daughter's mind. When your child grows up, she will be lesser competition for my little sister.

Grow up, just because your children watch movies that aren't butterflies and rainbows doesn't mean they're going to become messed up. You really think a movie is going to do anything other than MAYBE give them nightmares for a couple days?

AW MA GAWD I WILL NEVER FORGET THE HORRORS THAT I SAW IN THE MOVIE THAT WAS TOTALLY MADE BY HOLLYWOOD BUT WAS STILL HORRIBLY DEVASTATING!

reply

Your proclivity for exaggeration is not surprising. Your logic is staggering. Who would give his child nightmares on purpose? Who said anything about butterflies? Who needs to learn about all caps and civility? Answer: The real person who needs to "grow up."

I watched this when I was 13.
Its just a movie

'Hey hey mama said the way you move!'

reply

I totally agree with you! Thank you for telling it as it is.

You're daughter reminds me of myself when I was her age. I saw this when I was about 12 or 13. It is a disturbing movie but excellent. I would normally say no that it isn't appropriate for someone so young because of the horrible nature of the crimes committed but your daughter quite obviously has the same level of maturity I did at that age. If she can handle all five Saw films and both Hostel films, she'll be fine.
Although I do have to tell you that there is rape in the film and a very disturbing blow job scene that doesn't end well for the guy...

Tell your daughter to watch the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. Then maybe she'll get some taste for GOOD movies.

Just because someone's eyes havn't been opened to certain films does not mean that they have a bad taste in films. I happen to love Let the Right One In and Last House on the Left.
It bugs me when people tell other people that they have bad taste in films. People do have their own opinions and there is nothing wrong with that. Just because they don't like the same films you do doesn't mean that you're any better than them or any worse.
By the way, Nosferatu is much better than LTROI. It's a totally different kind of vampire film and is very old. Basically the first vampire film ever. German, black and white, silent. I want to say made in the 1920's but I'm a little fuzzy on the year. Incredible film, beautiful in every way. Very creepy.
Just thought I would add a recomendation into my lecture.
