what's the deal with the blood?
Did they forget to make/buy any fake blood so just used some poster paints they had lying around?

shareThe first really realistic looking fake blood was developed by Dick Smith, so you don't really see good looking blood except on the films he worked on ... "The Godfather", "The Exorcist", "Taxi Driver". It's really the early 80s where you see his recipe spreading to other make up artists. Savini used it for the first time on "Friday the 13th" (note how bad the blood looks in "Dawn of the Dead").
Here's Smith's recipe:
• 1 quart white corn syrup
• 1 level teaspoon methyl paraben
• 2 ounces Ehlers red food coloring
• 5 teaspoons Ehlers yellow food coloring
• 2 ounces Kodak Photo-Flo (Poisonous)
You gotta give Peckinpah a break! At least his blood didn't look like Tabasco sauce as it did in "Taxi Driver". Now that was embarrassing.
