Vroom-vroom. Love those behind the dash shots of that beautiful '72 Torrino! Almost gives me a whiff of what it would be like to drive that car. AHHHH...

I can dream.

think this is a much much better chase than Bullitt...which I have always thought was quite overrated. That chase has some nice slow, fast, slow moments and a cool as ice soundtrack but lacks heart.

What I really rate about this chase is the authenticity of it. I love the way the car gets banged up, especially after the jump when the suspension is nigh on busted, the bonnet crumpled and the rear fender is broken. You can really see that Newman is fighting to keep the car both on the road and ahead of the cops.

The director also does not go totally overboard with the pursuing cars, ie taking the Blues Brothers / Smokey and the Bandit route of trashing legions of law enforcers. There are only four cop cars in pursuit - not all concurrent - and these are all dealt with very realistically.

The icing on the cake for me was the J turn the last cop car executed on the bridge, in a space not much wider that the length of the car itself. Superb stuff.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is a fantastic car chase sequence which I had never seen before until the other day. The rest of the film is really good too!

Studio head to director: Barry (Vanishing Point) Newman is starring, we have to have a car chase. Make it at least 20 minutes long.

OMG! Seriously comparing it to Bullitt? Dream on. This is amateurish in comparison and the jazz score accompanying it? It just doesn't work.🐭

I agree the car chase was truly spectacular in a realistic fashion (no CGI rubbish back then, just pure stunt work). In fact I'm surprised the movie doesn't have a higher profile based on this early car chase sequence alone, if for nothing else.

I just watched this last night and the car chase was the highlight for me. If you’ve seen Death Proof (2007), then several scenes are really going to jump out at you.
