shareLampooning war, I don't think it would be possible in these PC times. I know MASH had some quite serious tones at times and allowed a commentary on the situation but in general it was a sitcom. I'm sure it would really antagonise people in the depicted countries if it was to be made.
shareLampooning war would not be the problem. The uneven political discourse would be intolerable. I saw the first Col Flagg episode (again) recently and Frank Burns does not even come across as a good caricature anymore. His lines were maybe one step above gibberish. MASH stayed on the air because no other show was doing criticisms of war. Had a similar show been on during the 1970's with better writing and characters it would be getting the adulation years later instead of MASH.
shareIt might work to some degree because I enjoyed the recent Catch 22 miniseries.

shareDo you really expect to see on American television a satire on the disastrous wars in Afghanistan or Iraq or any scripted series that would call into question what the true motives behind these wars of conquest were, or why we allowed worthless politicians to lobby on behalf of torture at Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, or any number of other CIA black sites?
