Why was Eric Paice always wearing those sunglasses? Also, what was with him saying he was acting in Martini commercials?

So yeah - Eric Paice has got to be one of the most straight up bizarre film characters that I have ever seen (for the film, I think this adds another interesting element to it). What was with him always wearing those sunglasses? Like, the bulk of the film has scenes that are either totally taking place on cloudy and overcast days or at night - Paice has his shades on regardless - was there a reason why he rarely was without his shades?
Also, in the scene where Jack chats and smokes a cigarette with him at the horse raise, what was with him mentioning to Jack that he was acting in Martini tv commercials? He mentions this yet it never is brought up again in the film. One of those details that made me scratch my head

There is a clear hatred of Eric coming from Jack, and fear from Eric. He’s killed a man, probably a week ago and then out of the blue, that man’s brother, a known killer and gangland heavy, is standing right next to him. Eric is unsure if Jack knows he killed his brother and is there to kill him. The removal of his shades is a wonderful moment when we see the fear in Eric’s eyes.
I think he wears shades because he knows his eyes betray him. He’s trying to be a gangster but he’s just Kinnears driver.

Martini adverts showed a very glam, jet-set lifestyle and Jack is making a jibe at Eric, that his smart look is very flashy when he knows he is really nothing in truth.
The conversation about his well being, his future prospects is highly sarcastic and biting.
