Any similar movies from the 70s or 80s?

I've seen this question asked but the responses are usually the common ones like Joy Ride and Breakdown. Anything that would be kind of obscure/before my time for a 23 year old? For example, I watched Race with the Devil yesterday. Randomly came across it. Basically, any kind of on the road or road trip thrillers or horror movies from the 70s or 80s..I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I always liked Jan Michael Vincent's Shadow of the Hawk for its creepy, malevolent car scene, but the movie is also a little slow. Many of these films are now on Youtube or Netflix. The Car with James Brolin is of course a classic, as is the dark comedy Death Race 2000 (the 1975 Corman/Bartel original). Of course, you don't need cars and trucks to have a good "hunted/haunted, by man or spirit" film. Even amateur student films like Equinox (1970) have atmosphere and tense moments. The Blair Witch Project, Deliverance, or Southern Comfort are all decent non-automotive films along the same theme.

Driver + Vanishing Point are both good :)

Forgetting the most obvious choice ;

Maximum Overdrive from 1986.

Taht truck driver (if any) has a green goblin mask on the front of his truck.

Go for it or just be a gopher!

1986's The Hitcher has the theme of someone doing something pretty innocent, only to be hunted down the rest of the movie for it.

'Rolling Vengeance' (1987) deals with a truck driver who uses an 8 ton killer truck to take revenge on a gang of rednecks.

Also Pee Wee Hermans Big Adventure. Large Marge was even a more frightening truck driver than the one in Duel

Good one. I always think Large Marge is a spooky zombie. Boxcar Willie's song 'Phantom 309' reminds me of her. It's about a phantom truck-driver called Big Joe who gives lifts to hitchhikers. It turns out Big Joe had died in an accident 10 years previously. Large Marge talks about the worst road accident ever that happened 10 years previously.
