What was that package he was carrying after his release?

And what happened to it after those elderly aggressive folks took it away from Alex during his beating, does he ever get it back, and what was it, just his basic personal effects or something more precious?

I thought too but I wonder what they were, and also, when those elderly folks were beating him up they took it away from him, but does he ever get it back?
