Best Part?

My candidates:

- Mellish is presented with the check at the end of the night when he dines with El Presidente, he disagrees with it.

- The taylor on vacation presenting problems in the timing of Mellish's assasination, and later on, rebels complaining about ill fitting uniforms.

- The fake translator at Mellish's return to the US, repeating word by word what was being said, only with a Spanish accent.

- While escaping to exile, Colonel Vargas booking cheap motel rooms and complaining about prices.

Any more?

One of my favorite is..

Luis: you will fight a hero, and if necessary you will die a hero!
Mellish: You better get some rest Luis you are beginning to talk gibberish!!
Dictator-to-be: The shortest straw will go!!
Mellish: Well, as long as it was fair!!

This film has so many riotous and off-the-wall dialogues and physical comedy that it's hard for me to pick favorite scenes from. I would nominate the subway scene and the kidnapping scene. Even though these scenes have no dialogue, they are very inventive, energetic, screwy, and work very well as silent comedy. They set up the Allen character as a bumbling character with good intentions but who is ultimately in over his head when his actions pay off ironically. The film is a farce, and is like a cartoon and one of those Airplane-style spoof comedies, with gags being delivered at a breakneck speed and Allen attempting anything for a laugh. The film is also ably supported by the music of Marvin Hamlisch, which greatly complements the action elements.

The translator at the airport really cracked me up.

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.
