It seems that you are not the kind of person that film was for.
So, what do you thing about main music theme in Mon Oncle? It repeats many, many times and it`s beautiful and timeless just like Lai`s Love story theme.

Oh my sister had a music box that played this song. I thought it sounded familar and we asked my mom and she remembered that it was from Love Story. She even know some of the words to the version with lyrics.

Anyways I love this song and how can anyone hate it? At least its not like Bad Boys 2 and "Shake ya tail feather" that was a little too much.

reply

Loved the song, but they should've only played it like twice. It kept playing at the most random times!!

reply

No i totally love the theme song, i'm always playing the record.

reply

I only like it with the full orchestra...when Ryan is looking for Jennifer, and the closing credits. The rest of the movie, you can have, thank you very much.

And I wish they had more Mozart and Bach.

reply

I love the theme song.

The theme song makes me laugh...
this movie has become a parody of itself...

reply

I think the theme added to the effect of the film.

reply

Johann Sebastian Bach does not write mere theme songs. The song is fitting and beautiful.

Last film seen: Robert Bresson's Pickpocket - Brilliant!

The OP is not alone!

I just watched Love Story on ThisTV Network a couple of nights ago. It's been over 40 years, and I still can't believe the sappy, gag-inducing score by Francis Lai in this movie beat out Jerry Goldsmith's score for Patton for the Best Original Music Oscar!

OK, so Patton took seven of the eight other Oscars it was nominated for, and Love Story got nothing else with six other nominations, four of which were head-to-head against Patton. I figure the Academy felt sorry for the guys who produced Love Story and threw them a bone. But that score didn't deserve it! Especially not at Goldsmith's expense!

I would not have posted this on the Love Story board as a new thread, as I'd surely have been branded a troll, but since this thread was already in existence, I had to vent!

I couldn't agree with you more., especially about "sappy, gag-inducing score." I hadn't realised that the music for this won the Academy Award - especially over the music for "Patton". I think everything about "Patton" was brilliant and the score certainly was amongst the most effective I have ever heard.

Perhaps you've never heard Andy Williams version of it? Look for it on YouTube. It may change your opinion
