How would this have played with Michael J. Pollard as Crabb?

Pollard was quite popular at the time this movie came out. In 1972 he would appear in a revision of Billy the Kid's story, entitled "Dirty Little Billy".
I think he looked a bit more like the Crabb of the novel than Hoffman. How do you think he would have done if he had been cast as Jack Crabb?

Pollard was never big enough to carry a major Hollywood picture. No one would have seen it.
