..because it is. I live in Canada, and they sell it here. I got mine for about $29.99 at Wal-Mart. Im confused.

Is this not the movie included in this boxed set? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F52LIO/102-8138787-6285726?ie=UTF8
shareI bought such DVD that looks like official release, but in reality it's just a pirate copy of the old VHS. The sound quality is poor (formally it is DD5.1, in reality - noisy mono).
shareI think he bought the DVD from Wallymart not Walmart.
shareI bought a copy of this DVD online, and although it is helpfully broken down into chapters etc., it is obviously taken from an old VHS copy. Sound and picture very poor (not nearly the quality of the clips from Anthology).

The cover on the copy above is the same as the copy I have, which was imported here into NZ from the USA, but mine didn't come with any booklet. Also my copy looks like it was taken off the video, picture is grainy and the jam sessions sound quality is suspect. There are no extras except chapter access and no "making of". But just to see 'em jamming and the roof top concert is magic. The Anthology version seems to be a shorten version of the concert that is on Let it Be.

To clear this up, there has only been two offical home format releases of "Let It Be" in the english speaking countries and they have all been in the US.
1) Year: 1981 Format: VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc Company: 20th Century Fox/Magnetic Video Corporation.
2) Year: Early 80's Format: CED Videodisc Company: RCA

"Let It Be laserdiscs are rare (and the source of ALL bootlegs) and can fetch up to $400.00 on ebay.
"A Squid Eating Dough in a Polyethylene Bag Is Fast and Bulbous, Got Me?"
As far as I know, the DVD has been postponed because the content was felt to be too controversial to be made public...
there is also this website, but it's a couple of years old now:

I know! I am a big beatles fan, I have the beatles cd catalog, beatles anthology dvd box set, the beatles anthology book and tons of other stuff that's been released over the years but no "let it be." I have only seen the most famous footage from the flick.
I heard that they don't want to release it because Paul Mccartney doesn't want to look like a badguy in the movie like in the scene where he and george argue.
It pisses me off. I rather have "let it be" than the beatles rockband.
It's Beatles Day!!!!
Play like The Beatles in Rock Band: The Beatles!!!
Hear the Beatles like never before with the Digital Remasters!!!
And available for the first time in over 20 years, see the end of an era in "Let It Be"!!!!
I think, personally, that if I saw that in an advert, I would be totally amazed, but, I mean, releasing Let It Be on Beatles Day, you would have millions of grateful fans who have been waiting for it to be re-released coming out in droves to buy it.
But of course, the Apple Corp. isn't me.....
***and as always, that's just my opinion, others may vary***

From your neighbor to the south:
we're waiting for it to be officialy released on disc. right now all we can get are bootleg copies. I came across one in a used record store the other day. The owner told me that the official release is coming soon.
Hows the quality of the wal-mart copy?
I'm confused how Canada has official dvd copies already?

And now in 2014, you can buy it off amazon for $60. Free shipping, of course.
share[deleted]
Yes, but you can still buy it off amazon, which is cool.
shareNot off Amazon UK; the listing page says "currently unavailable; we don't know when or if this will be back in stock". Also, the comments make it clear that this release was a bootleg, not the genuine article.
As I've said before - as of April 2014 there is NO official DVD or BluRay release of "Let It Be". Never has been.
Everyone saying they bought a copy from eBay or an Amazon seller or some market or a record store has bought a BOOTLEG.
The only official "Let It Be" releases are:
1) Through Magnetic Video on Laserdisc, VHS and Betamax in 1981. This was only in the US.
2) a CED disc in the early '80 through RCA. Again, only in the US.
3) Through Warner Home Video in Germany and Holland in 1983 on VHS and Betamax.
4) Again on laserdisc in the early 90's. Only in the U.S.
These are the only "legal" versions of the film. Everything else is a BOOTLEG!

A lot of bootlegs these days are from an old VHS recording of the film when it was screen on BBC2 in letterbox.

"A Squid Eating Dough in a Polyethylene Bag Is Fast and Bulbous, Got Me?"
TheRowdyMan is quite correct.
There, in fact, was an article just about a year and a half ago wherein it was said that, to this day, a major contributing factor to the absence of a legit release of the film is that Paul McCartney simply doesn't want it released.
There were legal problems for years early on, lawsuits and that joker Allen Klein and that joker Phil Spector and so forth. And Paul was NEVER happy with the project from day one. Going all the way back to when they had Spector overdub and change so much on the LP, and Paul was furious about that. And I don't think either of the Beatles ever really wanted the film released to begin with.
Now, in later years, Paul has reportedly talked about how he's seen "having a row" with George in the film, and how everyone knows that this film was rife with infighting among the band, and that with John and George gone, it's just a bad memory of a bad time. He'd like to remember the good times with those guys, allegedly, and he has been very candid about the film making him look negatively these days, to younger fans, who see him being abrasive to George, who is gone, now. Paul allegedly feels that fans today will "judge him" because he's still here, and those others have died and have achieved a type of sainthood.
Ringo, for the record, seems to have no problem with a release.
And, frankly, I don't see what Paul's hangup is, either, as much of the footage from the film can be seen in the readily available "The Beatles Anthology", with much description of the band fighting. The film, itself, doesn't show that much fighting. It's just that we know about it, now.
You are right; I ended up getting a bootleg copy at a music store with German subtitles popping up from time to time; and it doesn't have the UA logo like this version of the film has: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x15bafv_the-beatles-let-it-be-movie-01-03_shortfilms
