Felix Makes an Odd Mistake

Felix knew an awful lot about opera, ballet, history, etc. But once in a while his knowledge forced him into illogical statements.

He made one such remark in one of my favorite episodes, the Password show. The password was 'gravy' and Betty White gave the clue 'sauce'. Her partner replied with 'mayonnaise'.

Oscar gave the clue 'meat' and Felix replied with 'Lincoln'. His reasoning was that Abe Lincoln loved mayonnaise. But that was NOT the word. The player guessed that the answer was mayonnaise. So why would Felix think the password was Lincoln? huh?

There's another mistake that could be attributed to the writers. When Felix loses, Alan Ludden says goodbye and gives him a parting gift of the home game Password. Felix says that he already has two copies. He keeps one in his car. But it was established that the Odd Couple didn't own any cars. There was one very funny episode when they won a car in a contest but could not find a parking garage that was affordable so they got rid of the vehicle.
