Felix's sexuality

There's a user here named PKLarkin who insists on another board that the humor in the show stemmed from Felix appearing gay. Who here ever thought Felix seemed the least bit gay? I know I didn't. Persnickety, yes. Neurotic, without a doubt. Aggravating at times, sure. But absolutely not interested in men in that way.

reply

No, absolutely not. Indeed, the suits at ABC were *worried* that people would think Oscar and Felix were gay, so they went out of their way to try to show that they weren't. That's why the whole spoken intro, explaining about how they were both divorced, was put in. No, anybody who's paying attention to the show would see how desparately and consistently Felix wanted Gloria back, or see his long relationship with Miriam.

For every film and TV show, there is someone who feels compelled to suggest or comment on the "gay content". Just like those who say this is the "worst show" or "worst actor" of all time. My father-in-law is a total Felix Unger x 10 (if that is possible) and there is no way he is gay...he is a total horn-dog for chicks and he is 80 years old! It's just stereotypical BS. Might as well say Oscar Madison is gay! Come on, Raymond Burr and Rock Hudson were gay and they were way far from a Felix! Besides, who cares? Good acting is good acting!

reply

The remake makes a point to talk about it. It's quick and funny worked well for the episode

reply

Never once thought Felix was gay. Just a very cultured, fastidious hypochondriac, lol!

reply

How come every time two unmarried men live together, the assumption is they're gay

reply

There are many men like that - fussy, effete, a "mummy's boy" maybe - who are not gay. Just as there are tomboy, "butch" women who are not gay.

I would've love to see some of the promos that Tony Randall and Jack Klugman made for the ABC Executives. They thought that because they were two men living together, the audience was going to assume both Felix and Oscar were gay. So when Tony Randall and Jack Klugman did promos for the network honchos, they used effeminate voices just to mess with the morons that ran ABC. I'll bet they're hysterical.

reply

both oscar and felix(and especially tony randall) are classic closeted gay men desperatly trying to be straight.both are very successful at their careers so why did they living together?? especially since they couldnt stand each other.I lived next door to a guy who always went out of his way to mention that he was talking to some 'hot chick' in a bar and yet everytime I say him he was walking home with another guy he meet at the local gym.you would never guess him as being gay but you can add things up eventually.

reply

Felix? Yes, he did come off as gay. Watch movies and TV shows from the time and when there was a hairdresser or interior designer, they played effeminate queens.

reply

Felix was the original metrosexual.
