Would have been funnier with Paul Lynde as Murry
...a little less sassy and a lot more funny.

Mary Tyler Moore Show is probably my all time favorite TV show and Paul Lynde is the funniest man ever, but I can't picture him on this show. His personality was too strong. And those episodes where Murray is supposed to convey vulnerability? Ha! That would have been a spectacle.

His personality isn't too strong for American Dad.

AD has a character that's supposed to be based on Paul, right? I think that's great that somebody with some clout would enjoy and appreciate Paul enough to develop such a character, but there's nothing like the real deal.

No. Ted Knight was the comic relief and Ed Asner was the cantankerous boss while Gavin Mcleod was the everyman the sympathetic co worker and friend to Mary. Paul Lynde is more of a Ted Baxter.
