Oscar to John Wayne in my ass!

I was actually routing for Hoffman in 69. However I had not really watched True Grit. After I saw it I was not so disappointed. That said, I still think Midnight Cowboy was the best performance of Hoffman's career. I think Wayne's best was She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.

Well, at least wipe it off when you pull it out.

People will usually argue over relative quality of performances.
But, the voters in these things are other actors, so anything can happen.
They probably thought, Hoffman is so good he will get one eventually, and this could be Wayne's last chance.

He was pretty great tho.

Just saying "nuff said" does not end a conversation. John Wayne was excellent in "True Grit" (as he always was), and fully deserved his Oscar. He should have won at least a couple of others.
