Will Smith as Dr. Forbin?

On wikipedia it was said Will Smith will be Dr. Forbin in the remake of Colossus. Why do they need to cast a person who has been in several big SciFi films as the lead? "I have a bad feeling about this" (ala Star Wars). This may be the harbinger of a formula script and something disappointing like kanue Reeves in "the Day the Earth Stood Still" remake after he played in all the "matrix" series of movies. Pick someone who fits the part and not a box office draw. How about Denzel Washington? He looks more CompSci PHD.

I don't have a problem with Will Smith, in general, or his being cast as the lead in the remake.
However, he has been the lead in other sci-fi films, and it makes it seem as though casting a big star is the only consideration.
It is not likely a complete unkown would be cast in such a role, but it seems the same names are always bandied about, which is good for those big names.

Colossus prepares to detonate a nuke in a silo.
Dr Forbin delivers the line that everyone is expecting to hear since they sat down in thier seat: "Aw hell no!"

How about George Clooney as Forbin? He has the box office clout to get a movie made, and he showed with his remakes of Fail Safe and Solaris that he respects the intelligence of old movies and science fiction, and he doesn't need to turn them into shoot-em-ups to please the suits at Paramount or Sony. And Clooney has the acting chops to make the role interesting. I could totally see Clooney as Forbin.

dammit you beat me to it! You misspelled it, though. Let me correct that, it should read:

Colossus: I require an answer immediately

Forbin: Aw hail naw!!!

How about Philip Seymour Hoffman?

Nothing against Will Smith (I must be the only person that actually liked "I Robot") but I'm seeing someone more like Gary Oldman or Christopher Walken as Forbin.
A character that comes across as intellectual, quirky, but with a potentially sinister undercurrent.

Another crap remake that they think will live just by the special effects, and in the end I am 100% sure they will defeat the computer with the most stupid ideia... mark my words.

Yeah -- instruct it to program an unbeatable spell checker module ...

listen to this new idea:

They upload a VIRUS !

And I would likely projectile vomit if Colossus says "I now know what it is to be human" or some similar tripe used at the end of most artificial intelligence based movies.

will smith? wow. he's just perfect to play a scientist....jeez

He already did. Dr. Robert Neville in I Am Legend.

Will Smith NO!

Oh ffs, how about they option one of the thousands of good novels that's never been released as a film? I can't think of anyone who fits the role (certainly not Will Smith), because updating it means it won't be the same film. It will be another Karate Kid that's actually about Kung Fu, because Smith vanity.

Thankfully it looks like this isn't escaping development hell any time soon.

Ooh, a lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm my own grandpa!
