Sooo Unfunny!

I recall this show as a kid and thinking it was a corny commercial for something. Not once do I recall laughing at this show. Just further proof Brits are only funny to themselves. This is why American comics can go to England and make a killing but no British comics can survive in the U.S.

Yeah, Americans didn't find The Benny Hill Show funny. That's why they showed it in America every night for over 20 years.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

I grew up with tons of Britcoms, so there is that bias, but Benny Hill's brand of comedy doesn't really strike me as all that British. It seems much more universal than most British comedy and seems more like the Three Stooges of its day (with post-sexual revolution sensibilities). The slapstick and parody on the show are almost timeless.

The musical acts on the show, however, are extremely dated.

you recall seeing it as a kid?? It was probably to mature for kids. Did you ever try watching it when you got older?? People sense of humor change when they grow up. It gets on my nerves when people start a post like this ,then never come back it discuss their point.

Besides Benny Hill, the UK has produced other comedy titans such as Mister Bean and Monty Python.

It's a show that was never destined to survive past the 70s.

Though Benny Hill was a vaudeville artist and had talent for writing and making up innuendo laden songs, his TV series usually primarily featured women in their underwear being chased, and a little bald man being slapped on the head.

You see, this comes from an era where bald men were considered people to be made fun of.

Sadly, Hills other talents and sketches in the show tended to take a back seat to the nearly naked ladies and the slapping.

I maybe found that funny 40 years ago, but not anymore. To me it's a show that's best forgotten.

So, you're now a woke shit stain with no sense of humor.

reply

Guitarking, you need to go lookup the definition of woke. I never said I was offended or outraged by Benny Hill, only that to me his style of humour is outdated and unfunny.

I respect your opinion. I just don't agree with the OP's statement "Just further proof Brits are only funny to themselves. This is why American comics can go to England and make a killing but no British comics can survive in the U.S." It's ridiculous and not even close to true.
