Time for the time-honored question: "Who wanted this???"

reply

We can expect it to be diverse, three hours long, CGI-heavy and utterly lacking in magic.

reply

Maybe a heavy action movie and tied into the James Bond universe as Ian Fleming wrote the original book.

The woke version. Yippee.

Everyone's favorite Mercedes Chassis/world war I fighter plane is getting a tune up as Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson's Eon Productions are in development with Amazon MGM Studios on a new reimagined film adaptation of the classic Dick Van Dyke family pic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Sources say development is still in early stages, with Eon and Amazon execs currently setting meetings with potential writers and directors.

Film is being developed with a theatrical release in mind and the project builds on EON/AMGM partnership on Bond franchise.

The much-loved children's story written by Ian Fleming was adapted into a screenplay by Roald Dahl, Ken Hughes with Richard Maibaum — and in 1968, the film was released in cinemas starring Van Dyke, directed by Ken Hughes, produced by Cubby Broccoli with production design by Ken Adam and a score and Academy-nominated song by the Sherman Brothers.

This seemed old-fashioned back when I first saw it in the 1970s. To update it for modern times would just destroy the story's charm.

reply

I agree, there is no point and the original didn't even do well at the time.

reply

It's bad enough that Disney is still remaking some of their old animated feature films, but remaking something (which was released in the same decade my parents were born) that flopped but later became popular due to home video sales? Fucking seriously?

reply

Look, isn't the first one bad enough???

reply

I suppose you didn't like the original 1968 movie because of it's musical numbers?

reply

No, I don't like the movie period. But yes, the diabetes-inducing songs don't help.

reply

I understand your opinion. I'm just baffled at the whole idea of MGM/Amazon remaking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They'll just probably put no effort into it and just end up being even worse.
