Fando y Lis vs. Eraserhead
Which first feature film was better Jodorowsky's FANDO Y LIS or Lynch's ERASERHEAD?

shareWell, I'm gonna fly in the face of popular opinion here and say Fando y Lis. Now, as someone here pointed out, they really are apples and oranges, each one being a category unto itself, but if you go by which one succeeded most in what it was setting out to do, than at least where I am sitting, Jodorsky wins. While Lynch's effort is beautifully filmed, and it definitely has its moments (I particularly liked the, er, 'musical number'), it seems to me that Jodorowsky manages to impact more consistently and at a deeper level. Again, this is one of those things where it depends on the viewer, but Fando y Lis really seemed to be the true heir of Dali & Bunuel, both in its calculated audacity and the level at which it operates. There are images here that will stay with me a -long- time.
But like I said, that's just me.
Postscript: looks like I'm not the only one after all. Coo. :)
