I grew up with Dragnet and found it a bountiful source of wisdom. It taught me about crime, the legal system, drugs and modern culture. Most importantly, I learned about people and life in general. Here are a few things I gleaned from Dragnet. What about you? Dum dah dum dum dum....
When Joe Friday says something wise, it is so wise, it leaves people speechless.
No matter what, hippies are bad.
Marijuana, while not exactly good for you, is fairly innocuous and actually pretty cool (unless your kid drowns in the bathtub)
that police officers can't accept presents, even if it breaks a little girl's heart (the one where the Asia lady was killed - remember, the one the neighbor kept referring to as 'so small and delicate' - and her little daughter was trying to give a doll or something to one of them, each time I see that, I'm like, take the damn present! toss it once you're out of sight if you have to, to not get in trouble, but why hurt her feelings like that, she doesn't understand rules and regulations, she's a little girl whose mother was just brutally murdered! don't be a d*bag, TAKE THE DAMNED PRESENT!!!)
That the Crimson Crusader is so broke, he uses candles instead of a flashlight. I was a child at the time this show was on the air, and can remember my mother buying a small flashlight for me when I was in a grocery store with her. It cost ten cents. I'm betting that in a city the size of L.A., he could have scraped up enough cash for a flashlight by walking down the street and looking for coins that others had dropped!
I learned from one of the "Public Affairs" Dragnet episodes (aka Jack Webb's cure for insomnia) that police brutality does not exist. It's all just hype from the media you see. Thank you Sgt. Friday. I was worried that those cops in Selma were doing something wrong.
