Sexist

Not that there's anything particularly unusual about sexism in movies, particularly movies from that time. I thought I'd take a moment to mention how dismissive the male characters are of any protests she makes.

She protests her father's immoral and illegal activities. She protests O'Toole's lovemaking and then gives in, a seriously questionable signal to send to men - it's essentially rape - how can you tell a romantic giving-in from a helpless giving-in?

Bechdel Test failure. No women allies, she's a tool of a male-driven plot.

Not that women don't perpetrate the patriarchy on us, as Hepburn does here and in many of her films. Still love her. Thanks for the Bechdel-passing 'Children's Hour'.

the father has already sent the statue to the museum when the film begins. Too late for anything to be done about it. We don't know that she wouldn't have been able to stop him had she known about it eqrlier. but just as well she didn't, or it wouldn't be a very interesting story.

she is clearly attracted to o'Toole and not averse to being kissed by him. in th scene where she struggles, it is because she doesn't realise it is him, he's disguised as a museum guard. once she realises it's him, the struggling ceases.

I don't think the bechdel test is a very good guage of whether a film is any good.

You dont get the society context of that era. Women which didnt said "No" were simply seen as sl*ts. But women back then indeed also had sexual desires (after all even even extreme feminists must agree with that). So the society codex was to say .... "No". And the role of men was to realize if its a "Yes" or a "No". If men still insisted after a "No" "No" then (!!!!!) they were rapist. In any other case, means most times, the "No" was a hidden "Yes".

So stop talking nonsense without realizing the codex of the society back then. Puritans like you were the reason why this women had to act that way. Back at the sixties and sadly also now they are claiming they rule setting for society again. By hiding their puritanism behind "feminism". Which in reality were responsible for the sexual revolution, not your puritism view of the world. People like you are simply destroying fun and art. The same was true with the song "Baby, its cold outside". One of the most progressive songs of its time (Washington Post even called it the most progressive one). Cause it showed that women can handle their sexual desires. But puritans like you are always trying to destroy womens sexual desires. Back then and again ... now.

"it's essentially rape"

What an idiotic statement.

There was no rape in this movie.
