Greatest heist film?

Personally, I think this has to earn the title ‘Greatest Heist Film.’ I saw it this summer and was incredibly impressed. My first thought after laughing hysterically was “They're probably gonna remake this.” ...and, well, they are.

silver bears and topkapi would have to be in there for me; also 11 harrowhouse.

What, no love for "Top Job"?

Its funny how this list, my list, that is....has changed as I've aged. Some remain on the list, others fall by the way side.

I liked Gambit, but MC's nasal, aristocratic voice....is like fingernails on a blackboard.

In no order my top 10

Hitchcocks "To catch a thief." Cary Grant AND Grace Kelly!!!!
Heat
Oceans 11
Italian job
Lock stock and 2 smoking barrels
Die Hard....pick one
Usual suspects
Reservoir dogs
Snatch
Inside job

It's a good film, but there are quite a few other great heist films, such as:

The League of Gentlemen

Who's Minding the Mint?

The Asphalt Jungle

Rififi

Small Time Crooks

and many others.

JimHutton (1934-79) & ElleryQueen

As far as caper comedies go, I'd park the 1975 The Return Of The Pink Panther and the 1958 Italian number Big Deal On Madonna Street slightly in front of Gambit.

"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan

And to this terrific list, I'm going to contribute The Hot Rock - which culminates with Moses Gunn's dry, disgusted observation: "I've heard, of course, of the habitual criminal, but I've never before heard of the habitual crime."

What about Seven Thieves?

The Pink Panther (1963)
