Was there a deep symbolic reason for Blondie not having his trademark attire and scruffy beard?

As we all know, Blondie does not acquire his iconic poncho until the end of the film - this along with the fact that when we first encounter Blondie, he is pretty much clean shaven and he wears a hat and jacket that has a very fresh look to it and we even see him crack a full smile here - things that we rarely see him associated with in the other Dollars films.

Was there a deeper significance to this? Was there more to his character that was written yet did not make it into the finished film?

The reason is the actual timeline of the movies is: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Followed by For a Few Dollars More and finally A Fistful of Dollars. So the two sequels to A Fistful of Dollars are in fact prequels. So TGTBATG shows Eastwoods eventual evolution to being a lone wolf so to speak.

Gotcha. If there was ever a story that would turn a person into a complete lone wolf, it is this one.
