How can ANYONE like this crap?

Seriously, this show is such a insult to Batman and his character.
I don't care if it falls in line with the comics of the 60's. Even those comics weren't as campy as this junk.

I liked it as a kid during reruns in the 80's on CBC, but that was before I really started reading the character and what he is about.
I have gone back and read the older comics of the 40's and 50's and they are nothing like this.

I just can't stand this show, it insults Batman so much. Hell the first episode Hi Diddle Riddle, you see Batman doing a stupid dance. Batman would NEVER DO STUPID DANCES. NEVER, just never.
We are talking about a character who dresses as a Bat for god sakes, he does nothing but brood over the death of his parents, and you want me to think he is campy. Hell No.

The Nolan and Burton films did Batman right. The comics of the 80's and then so have done Batman right.

This show should be forgotten.
Just like the Spiderman TV series has been forgotten. Just horrible.

Wow!? I cannot begin to understand how you interpreted my opinion. I'm a guy who would not sit still for more than an episode or two before I would have to have a sophisticated story or window dressing to keep me tuned in. I am just not buying that there is that much of an audience that would sit still for a concept time after time ala Tim Burton's projects. Batgirl in the 1960's was not brought in as a trade off for other features but because downsizing the Budget for the last season was a done deal before Batgirl was addressed by the producers. Yvonne Craig did not break the bank because she was not well known and the producers trimmed back expensive potential guest stars such as Frank Gorshin.

I like it. I can`t take that Dark Knight crap seriously. But since you`re obviously a nerd, you`ll never understand.

By the way, how`s your mom, Ed?

Yep, I sure must be a idiot.

I hate this series and what it did to the Batman name.

It is a total farce, and the sooner everyone forgets this crap existed the better.

Batman is suppose to be a dark character, not some campy crap.

The 1940 - 1968 history disagrees. He was still a camp character in The Brave and the Bold and World's Finest Comics well into the seventies. I have an issue of Detective Comics from 1965 (The year before the series) where Batman and Robin take on a witch who flies around Gotham on a broomstick and turns a pumpkin and four mice into a car and four gangsters. The show was more restrained than the comics, and didn't incorporate the slang the comic book writers had coming out of Batman's mouth; "Right On!," "Groovy," "Slick chick..." Adam West didn't have a big toothy smile like the Batman of the comics, either. There was an issue in 1973 where he bursts out laughing at the irony of a villain's plight.

Or are you blaming the show for representing the Batman of its time, and not the version of the caped crusader that emerged years later? If you condemn this show, you have to condemn 26 of the 27 years of Batman before it (And a few after). You can choose to ignore the series, or you can rattle on and give people a reason to say why they like it. There's more than one way to do Frankenstein, and more than one way to do Batman.

You have too much emotional investment in this character. I really do not like the Chris Pine Captain Kirk but I am not going off the deep end over it.

I think the OP is taking himself and Batman way too serously.
Or,to quote the Joker in The Dark KNight,"Why So Serious?".
The show is a good reflection of the "Silly" Batman from 1955 to 1964,when,because of the great Comics Crackdown, the violence and darkness of the Batman comic had to be hugely cut down.
In 1964,the Comics were overhauled because of poor sales to be more serious, with a lot of the sillier elements dropped, the Sci Fi element ,though still there, greatly reduced (Bat Mite permaenetly vanished) and generaly a more serious tone taken.Sales greatly improved. But the silly Batman is what the producers of the show wanted to do,(despite that being severely reduced in the comics) and they had a great sucess with it.

Hey! No need to be rude, with the "Dork Knight" comment.

I happen to enjoy both versions! I enjoy this show for what it is as much as I like the more serious take on Batman. Yes, it's a darker character.

But in the end of it all, he dresses like a Bat to fight crime. So the slapstick silly aspect of the idea is fun to watch tooo.

I don't get why people can't just enjoy both versions.

reply

There's a time and a place to enjoy both.

Any TRUE fan of the show would know its history and would know how the 60s show not only saved it, but added to it.

Nolan's films really are not bad, but when one side gets all snarky, it's too easy to step in and give them a taste of their own attitude.

And, yes, both show and film have had their share of embarrassing problems.

You know what? *beep* you if you don't like it don't watch it my ignore list is getting real long

Good question OP. Many people did and still do. This was a campy sitcom that thankfully was with out a laugh track. In all fairness this show more or less works in season 1.

You want to see a *really* good show made by the same people about a similar character made in the same time period? Go watch this instead:

Nolan's Batmans were written by scary people and are an insult to Batman. But, as with the 60s TV show, I'm sure the Dark Knight films will positively impact the comics the next time comic books are deemed 'dead' by the market.

Comic books are ridiculous. 60s Batman knew that and took it to the next level. They're escapism. Making them feel "real" is the most fake thing one can do.

I get tired of people talking crap about this show if you hate it fine but you should still respect it. Had it not been for this show batman wouldn't even be around today the batman comic's was an inch of being canceled this show saved batman and is the reason why we have him today and batman was already campy in the comics before the show started.

Hard to do from the movie on. The movie and 2nd season are all over the place and 3rd season is just plain bad.

OK, that is true.

I don't know about anyone else, but Julie Newmar and Yvonne Craig suited up is my reason for liking this crap.
