My favorite scene... what's yours?

First off, I'm generally not a fan of musicals, but this one has some great songs! I think for the most part, I don't like musicals that are all music and no dialog. There's something about singing dialog that really puts me off. This one I really enjoyed, for the most part. Didn't know there was a Nazi aspect to the movie before I put it on and found it a bit weird, but still interesting to the story... anyhow...

My favorite scene was with the puppets. It was a really cool show with some fun story telling and great singing! Props to the puppet masters who really pulled it off!! Also, got to say I love how they shot it, I felt it was believable, for the most part, and very well done!

A favorite childhood movie of mine. I think my favorite song is Edelweiss. Love the puppet show!

I'm a sucker for thunderstorms, so I have a fondness for "I Am 16 Going on 17" and "My Favorite Things". Plus, that marionette show on "The Lonely Goatherd" is entertaining to watch.

Do-Re-Mi is my favorite, I’m not sure why everyone seems to love Edelweiss it’s actually my least favorite.

There are many, but I'm going to say two scenes.

The scene where Maria goes to see Mother Abbess in her office after she left the Von Trapps because she realized she was in love with a man engaged to another woman. Mother Abbess is explaining that the abbey shouldn't be a place to hide in and that Maria must find her own way in the world - "climb every mountain", and while doing so, Mother Abbess is looking out of her window at the hills around the abbey, hills she herself can't visit since she is cloistered. Being a cloistered nun was what Mother Abbess wanted, but she wanted Maria to be sure it was right for her. The song, the acting, the lighting, the shadows, etc. make this one of the most beautiful and powerful scenes in movie history in my opinion.

The second is Maria's wedding. That thunderous pipe organ and orchestral music during the processional is powerful and moving, and the shot of the nuns having to stay behind the gate because they couldn't attend the wedding while the public was there because they were also cloistered.

Absolutely the scene with Maria and the Rev Mother, and you described the reasons beautifully. I will add that Julie Andrew’s acting, her facial expressions as she listens to the advice was so deeply moving.

Oh my gosh. I saw this movie years ago and just rewatched it after I read your favorite scenes. I cried during both. You nailed this. Two amazing scenes. I also love the last scene with them climbing over the mountain to escape nazi Germany. Thank you.

We have a family joke that whenever it's a quiet moment, my daughter will whisper, "Would now be a good time to sing about our favorite things?"

The kids were only interested in this old movie because we took them on a European vacation which included a TSOM bike tour in Salzburg.

I like every scene in the movie, and every song, up to the climax where they're fleeing the nazis. It's not that it's badly done, but I think it triggers some level of sadness because I know the movie is almost over.
