I've seen most, if not all of the PP movies. But I get confused by the titles. Revenge, Return, etc. And some of them is not as funny. I wasnt sure if it is Revenge or Return.
So, can you put down the funny titles and the not funny. I wanted to purchase the funny ones only.

In my opinion, you should get all the five Sellers movies, but if you must choose the best of those, I would go for:
A shot in the dark
Return of the Pink panther
The Pink panther Strikes Again
Stayr clear of all non-Sellers Panthers!

Yeah, that's the order I would put them in. Followed by The Pink Panther at 4 and Revenge of the Pink Panther at a distant 5th.

Yes, but in that movie's defense, Sir Charles actually was the star, Clouseau was originally little more than a supporting role.

A Shot in the Dark is definitely the best for me. When fans quote a favourite Clouseau line -- e.g. 'Are there "meuths" in your closet' -- it's almost always from this film.
I watched the original Pink Panther (as we shall have to refer to it from now on) again tonight, and it's a good film, but "Shot" is excellent.
If you like Peter Sellers, don't miss (amongst others) the less-well-known Being There (1979), a sympathetic serious portrayal of a Gump-like character that is still wildly funny at times; and The Mouse That Roared, which features one of Sellers' trademarks: he plays multiple roles, including a woman.

The thing I like most about the original Pink Panther series is that Clouseau was so much more likable and loveable than in the following films.
That's because he wasn't the focus of the movie. Don't forget, this was to be a vehicle for David Niven.
The remaining movies were simply to show Clouseau as more of a bumbler than the first one was able to show.
The first "Pink Panther" movie was a vehicle for David Niven, not Peter Sellers. Sellers stole the show by his portrayal of Clouseau, and the rest is history.
Isn't it ironic that the funniest Pink Panther movie is the one without "Pink Panther" in its title - or, unless I am mistaken, anywhere in the movie? The Panther certainly did not appear in the titles as he did in the original.

Pink Panther Strikes Again is the one that's on the top of my list. With A Shot in the Dark close behind it. Hard even for me to determine why I prefer Revenge over Shot. I think because I really enjoy the entire 'entering the castle' sequence so much. Together with a great 'Cato fighting scene' and superb funny opening with Dreyfus and Clouseau it just tops a Shot in the Dark for me. Although it's fair to say that shot in the dark is an overall better movie. In my opinion, that is.
Third place will be Return of the Pink Panther. When I saw this one for the first time (it was the first Panther movie I ever saw) I laughed so hard about the Cato-Clouseau fight that my tummy hurted for a long time after the film was over.
Just in case you're still confused about the titles, Return of the Pink Panther is the one where the Panther Diamond is stolen and Clouseau is convinced that Sir Charles Litton (Christopher Plummer in this one) is behind it. PP Strikes again is about Dreyfuss escaping the psychiatric hospital and threatening the world with a doom device. In this one several hitman try to kill Clouseau during the Munich Octoberfest before Clouseau finds the hiding place of Dreyfuss (a castle).
Now I own the Panther DVD box which I bought in combination with Return of the Pink Panther and I just ordered the other movies to complete the series (Curse, Son and Inspector Clouseau). Still I advise you to stay away from the non-Sellers movies. Even the Pink Panther movies that aren't great at least have some hillarious moments of Sellers as Clouseau. And please... do not believe people that tell you that the 'new' Pink Panther movie is in any way 'true' to the old movies. You have to be a Steve Martin fan to appreciate that specific one and I understand that even some of the biggest Martin fans have a hard time with it (that is, some of the people I know and are Martin fans). I just thought it was god awfull, like Son and Curse of the Pink Panther...
i thought the 4th one was the best when he dressed up as marlon brando. the 2nd was one of my favs but it can never beat no. 4.

I'd rate A Shot in the Dark as definitely the best overall (of what I've seen.) I first saw it as a 15 year old when I was generally more interested in crass t'n'a films (if you get the drift) and it just blew me away! Hilarious film with all the great qualities of what a classic comedy should be. No wonder it's still loved - I really hope my kids grow up to adore it too!
On a side note, I am a little surpised people don't rate the first as highly as I do... while not a patch on the 2nd and possibly later ones, it's still a great film and I would place it highly in my PP list. (NB. I haven't seen them all so don't want to rate just yet.)

Very hard to choose. I would choose The Return Of The Pink Panther because it was the first one in the series I saw and from then on I got stuck with the Pink Panthers and Peter Sellers, also for the excellent fight scenes....

Even though I know it all comes down to your own particular taste, seeing the 70's movies compared to the 2 classics of the 60's, is really starting to bug me. Sure, The Pink Panther has a far different style of humor than any of the others, I wouldn't expect to see it listed worse than #2 by anyone over the age of 12. I thought there were more sophisticated people on here than that. If all you want is over-the-top slap stick, then go with revenge, return and strikes again. In the Pink Panther, you actually get very little slap stick, other than the infamous falling off the globe, and a few other examples, it is a much more straight kind of humor. With A shot in the dark, you get a little bit more slap stick, i.e. him falling in the pond, damaging the pool table, and also added a almost childish run on joke gag, getting hauled off to prison 4 times. All and all, I rank the first two about the same, a shot in the dark is given bonus points for its opening scene with the song shadows of paris, the cartoon opening credits are far superior to those used in pink panther, and the Hawaiian, Spanish Tapas, and Russian Cossack scenes, and for the finale (if you can manage to surprise the audience when they already know the ending, then its a classic... Anyone seen Elvira Madigan?)
The Pink Panther, of course had the only great story line from any entry in the series, that and the song and dance # sung in italian is very sexy. Like i said about the humor, its more adult, there is more subtleness to it, and almost parody like, or satire like. It is making fun of Inspector Cluoseu, without actually using slap-stick gags... (in addition to a few slap stick here and there)
When I first saw all of the movies in jr. high, i thought they were all hilarious, with the one exception, trail of the panther. Having grown up now, i recognize Revenge, Return, and Pink panther strikes again, are far inferior, and I have actually found an appreciation for Trail of the Pink Panther, despite its using only archive footage of peter sellers. Haven't any of you seen Trail, all but one of you seem to have neglected mentioning it... when i watched it recently i was dying to think of where i knew the TV reporter from... then it dawned on me... PATSIE!! FROM ABSOLUTELY fABULOUS!!!!

5-The Pink Panther- I'm sorry but the first movie was just way too boring and Sellers hadn't perfected his roll yet and played it too serious.
1) Strikes Again was definitely the best and funniest from start to finish.
2) Return was almost as good.
3) Shot in the Dark was pretty good. Had some funny moments but Sellers hadn't found the character yet and the Kato scenes weren't that good yet.
4) Revenge tried really hard to be good but just didn't do anything for me.
5) The Pink Panther was just not funny, to the point of being bad and the pacing was poor and the fact that Clouseau's wife is having an affair with the jewel thief is just stupid.

Well, if you expected the Pink Panther to be a Clouseau-movie, surely you were disappointed, as the main character was not Coluseau, but Charles Litton. Actually, the detective was to be played by Peter Ustinov, but he resigned just before it was to be recorded. Sellers was a last minute solution. That does not imply that he was bad, but, unlike the other movies, the script was not created to suit him.
