As strange as this question seems, nobody has the same sense of humour so you may find it boring, or may find it hilarious, like myself. It's generally considered the best in the 'Panther' series and Maltin gives it ****, a full house. It really is histerical at times such as the pull game Clouseau has with Monsieur Ballon.

"Music comes from within, from your heart and from your soul."
It is absolutely hilarious, and it is the best in the series. Although there is a hilarious scene in Pink Panther Strikes Again, when he is swinging on a bar above the staircase, and he lets go off the bar, and falls down the staircase. So funny!
I still laugh out loud just thinking about certain scenes.
same here!
Whenever I think about "Francois, I've just cut off my thumb"
and Closeau getting hauled away in the police car 4 times, (Even the sound of the siren is hilarious!) I always laugh out loud, and even when I Manage to choke it back I can't help but grin.
I love that mystery theme in the movie, and often find myself whistling it, but automatically I follow up with that funny siren, because in the movie you'll always hear that siren after that theme, it's imprinted in my brain, LOL.
shareNot as good as "Strikes Again" by a full star :)

I too saw it again last night on DVD.
Absolutely hilarious.
Humour is very subtle, but it all comes together at the beginning where he falls into the pond and out of the window, and Dreyfuss stabs himself with the letter opener.
At the end though, Clouseaus (however you spell it) great plan is to turn the light off and the murderer will leave the room.
Hilarious when they all leave the room get in the car to escape then get blown up by the bomb that Dreyfuss left for Clouseau. That had me in stitches for sheer comedy genius. Funniest thing I've ever seen.

After watching the movie about Peter Sellers on HBO, I have been renting the Panther movies to see how funny they are. Yes they are very old and the humor does seem dated at times but there are some still very funny scenes, although Clouseau's accidents with swinging doors does get repetative. Worth a rent in my opinion but definately rent them before you buy the box set.
shareI have to agree that humor is very subjective. For my money, this is one of the funniest films I have ever seen. If I have to quantify that I would say it's top 5 for me. It's the little things.
Sellers sucking ink out of his pen.
"You've broken my pointer, now I have nothing to point with."
The idea that Clousseu sleeps in his karate suit (whatever it's called).
Spinning the globe and then sliding off of it.
The billiard cue scene, "Whoever invented that should be shot!"
It's the kind of stuff that starts out as a little giggle and, as you think about it and replay it in your mind starts to grow and grow and grow. Hilarious.
yes, you bet it's damn funny! The more you think of it the funnier it gets...Sellers is priceless as the inspector, as usual! As Dreyfus said: "Give me ten men like Clouseau and I could destroy the world."!
shareThe best bits:
Clouseau ripping his trousers while getting out Maria's dossier (they repeated this in 'The Pink Panther Strikes Again')
Clouseau hearing a woman singing thinking she's being screams, charges in the room straight through the window on the other side of the room.
The bed lifting off the floor when the bom goes off.
Clouseau getting out the car on the wrong side and falling in the fountain.
Plus many more!
Actually, Clousseu spinning the globe and sliding off it occurs in the first pink panther movie. In "A Shot in the Dark", he spins the globe and gets caught in the metal ring around the middle of the globe.

I love the line by Sellers: "I will prove to the world that Maria Gambrelli is innocent (pause) of murder."
shareI can't believe that no one mentioned (in my opinion) the funniest part of the movie. When Clouseau gets Maria to go back to his apartment. Right when he is about to go to bed with her and well.... I won't give it away. It is too funny! I laughed so hard I cried! I will give you a hint (Clouseau + Maria + Cato in Clouseau's apartment). Priceless scene.
Don't mess with Texas!
my funniest part is when Clouseau is in his office waiting for "the Gambrelli woman". He investigates several sounds in the hallway, you'll hear a suspense theme, and behind his back Hercule brings in Gambrelli in his office without him noticing it, and then he's rehearsing his conversation not knowing that she's already in the room; hilarious!
shareI read a review of this in Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide and rented the DVD today. I like Peter Seller's and The Pink Panther, but this movie didn't make me laugh at all. Maybe it's the later Panther films I remember being funny, because I wouldn't recommend A Shot In The Dark to anyone; it's just not funny. The plot is thin. The jokes weak.
Maltin strikes out once again with his reviews (The Shawshank Redemption getting two and a half stars, indeed).
1 out of 5 stars (just for the first Clouseau gag of him getting out of the taxi and falling into the fountain).
