Modern movie version

I would like to see a movie made out of this series. There have been a few already, but I want to see something modern with an all-star cast. Brad Garret could play Herman. (Brad Garret was the tall, throaty older brother from "Everyone loves Raymond"). Brittany Spears could play Lilly Munster. That would be great for her "comeback".

Please reply with casting suggestions for the other roles.

reply

I'm suprised that they haven't done a movie remake of the show by now. I agree with Brad Garrett as Herman. He's tall and we've all seen his dead on impression as Herman. However, I don't think Britney Spears would be right for Lilly at all, she'd make a better Marilyn. Here's my cast:
Herman- Brad Garrett
Lilly- Catherine Zeta Jones
Grampa- Billy Crystal? Having a hard time with this one
Marilyn- Amanda Bynes
Eddie- Unknown

reply

Obviously everyone can agree on:
Brad Garrett as Herman,
Catherine Zeta Jones as Lily,
Cher (only) as Morticia Addams (cameo)*

I think either Robin Williams or even
Butch Patrick (for the irony) could play Grampa!
but Peter Boyle would have been great too!

*Check Addams (show) board to confirm this,
I'm no expert on either show even though I like them a lot!,
but posters/people say on there that The Munsters and
Addamses are "related" and that it was said in a real
episode of Munsters; so if it's true, than Cher could make
a grand, well deserved cameo as Morticia Addams!

I'm sure if Cher makes a cameo as Tish, this will be not only
at least descent, it'll probably be a well loved hit!

Herman Munster: Brad Garrett

Lily Munster: Catherine Zeta Jones

Grandpa Munster: Robin Williams, actually didn't occur to me until your post, but I actually quite agree!

Marilyn Munster: Hayden Panettiere

Eddie Munster: David Dorfman

reply

Be careful what you wish for... While it was announced 3 years ago, it seemed to be dead in the water until now, when they just said the movie was still a go... The Munsters... by the Wayans brothers...

reply

How is that a bad thing? As long as they do it the way Dave Chappelle did it for his show...it would be fine..

I think if they dont put in any ghettoness, there proably wont be a problem.

I like Scary movie and white chicks, so i believe they have some sort of talent.

i have a feeling that because bewitched was not a success, no one is willing to try any other old show movies.

Herman Munster: Brad Garret

Grandpa: Robin Williams
Marilyn Munster: Hilary Duff
Eddie Munster: Unknown

Interesting responses, I agree on the following roles:

Herman Munster: Brad Garret
Lily Munster: Catherine Zeta-Jones
Grandpa: Robin Williams

Marylin could easily be played by several actresses. A good Eddie would be difficult to find. All of the child actors I could think would be best for the role are too old now...perhaps an unknown would be best?

I disagree that a Munsters remake would follow the same path as "Bewitched". That Addams family and the Beverly Hillbillies did so well, why not the Munsters? Good writing could make it a success. The Addams Family and BH Hillbillies seemed like a an attempt to use the old formula and enhance it with a modern setting. They were nostalgic and appealed to a wide audience. "Bewitched" was a movie about a remake of "Bewitched". That formula was boring and unappealing.

reply

"The Beverly Hillbillies" remake was so funny!
(Penelope Spheeris also did "Little Rascals")

"Bewitched" would have been better if Nicole Kidman
was less softspoken and if she (at least) did the famous
Elizabeth Montgomery/Samantha hairstyle. And Nicole's
clothes in the movie were too "scoccer mom-ish" (wich
is an elimination of all glamour.)

No adult (or child) fan of the 60's show (that I know of)
likes the 90's Addams movies. The only person I've ever met
who liked the Anjelica Huston movie versions was my friend,
and we were five years old! Even back then I did not like
Anjelica's versions. (it was too slapsticky for me).

But I love the 1960's Carolyn Jones Addams family show.
(besides Carolyn) Only Cher can properly take on the role
of Morticia Addams. So I hope that whomever does the new
Munsters movie asks Cher to make a cameo as Morticia.

>>Eddie: Definately David Dorfman. Although I was gonna suggest Blake Woodruff, but he may be too old. Or MAYBE Colin Ford.<<

Actually, David Dorfman is 15 and looks it. Blake is 13, and Colin is 12.

Blake can easily play younger, as could Colin. If I were them, I would go younger still, however. Maybe someone to play 9 or 10.

yeah actaully I think Robin Williams would be GREAT as Grandpa.

in an episode(haven't seen it with my old eyes yet), there are relatives of the Munsters who look alot like The Addams.

reply

I don't think they should bother making a movie of the Munsters, all the more recent Munster movies that I've seen have been terrible!, you cant beat the original cast.

reply

I hope this could be a great film with a good budget. I agree with everyones choices for a cast.

They can add so much. On top of Uncle Gill (my fave cameo on the show), you have the invisable man and the mummy (a great word play for Lilys mom?).

Im a fan of the Addams Family films. I hope this one comes out well if it get made.

Gwynne died in '93 and , as of 2016 this year, al lewis and robin williams are all dead

reply

Herman Munster--Brad Garret (naturally)

Lily Munster-- Daryl Hannah (hey, she played on a Addams Family movie, she can do it!)

Grandpa-- Robin Williams (no doubt about it!)

Marilyn Munster-- Amanda Bynes

Eddie Munster-- The kid from the remake of the Omen (sorry, don't remember his name!)

Herman Munster- Not a big fan of Brad Garrett, he kinda annoys me in roles other than Robert Barrone.

Lily Munster- Catherine Zeta-Jones, no one else even comes close. Daryl Hannah was horrible in that Addams remake.

Grandpa- Williams is a good choice. But i thought with a fake nose Harvey Keitel could do it.

Marilyn Munster- Kristen Bell. But i'm kind of bias since I think kristen bell should be in every movie.

Eddie- who knows...

but i def think the movie should't be updated, but keep in the 60s range cos this kind of story only works in that kind of sense. i think that's why bewitched failed...plus, you kno, the horrible writing and casting.

It's funny I should mention this, but I was watching The Big Tease on Reelz Channel, and they made mention of a Munsters movie that will be helmed by the Wayans brothers!!!

This was mentioned after showing the trailer to their upcoming movie "Dance Movie".

Lily is like hundreds of years old. And looks about in her mid to late thirties physically. Marilyn is around nineteen or twenty.

I'm not sure what gave anyone the idea that Lily and Marilyn were about the same age but I never saw it. First of all Marilyn is Lilly's niece (not that that precludes them being closer in age my aunt is only 2 years older than my Brother and I know one guy who was in the same class as his uncle) but I think the age difference is implied. I'd put Marilyn in here early 20's and lily in her early to mid 40's

reply

I can't believe everyone likes Brad Garrett for Herman. I cannot stand him. And While I love Catherine Zeta-Jones, I'm just not sure I can see it. I'll have to think on this.

I am an adult who loves the Addams Family movies. This is a textbook example of how to do a tv adaptation right.

Bewitch bombed because they were trying to make it so 'hip' they forgot about the series and why people originally had liked it. Just stick to the sitcom and you'll have a big screen hit.

reply

I hope they don't make a remake of this it will suck just like all the other movie remakes have sucked.

reply

I'd like to see Jason Alexander as Grandpa.
