GI Trivia Part 12
Part 11 is 'Read-only' now.
skipper is on board to ask the next question
Gilligan fainted in these episodes:
Ghost a-Go-Go; How to Be a Hero; The Hunter; Pass the Vegetables, Please; Quick Before it Sinks; The Return of Wrongway Feldman (acting)
Name two others.
Time's up, sadly.
The correct answers are A Nose by Any Other Name (after Professor told Gilligan to be ready for surgery) and Feed the Kitty (after Gilligan realized Skipper hadn't been eaten by Leo).
Next question: In The Postman Cometh, Mary Ann thought Gilligan, Skipper, and Professor had gone "island happy". In what episode did Mr Howell say the same thing about one castaway?
[deleted]
Gilligan's Mother-In-Law?
shareYou got it skipper!
Your turn
Ginger's 'S.S Minnow' dress (the one made from Gilligan's duffel bag) was seen in several S1 episodes. She wore it in only one S3 episode (Gilligan vs Gilligan), and in only one S2 episode.
Which one?
Agonized Labor?
shareExactly right! 😊 And that was it for S2. Such a nice dress should have been worn more often...
There's a GI Wikia page about the cast's wardrobe that states she wore it in And Then There Were None -- not so. I'll have to get that edited 👊
Your turn skipper
In Quick Before It Sinks, what did the men think Ginger did to Gilligan after he broke the news to her about the island sinking? What did she really do and why?
shareThey thought she slapped him but really she kissed him because she thought they were going to be rescued.
shareThat's right.
shareWhat episode did we hear Ginger say something about her sister...and what did she say?
shareHair Today, Gone Tomorrow. Ginger says her sister is beautiful.
shareCorrect
shareThere are two actors on "Gilligan's Island" have had crossed eyes that require special camera angles and bangs to cover their flaws. Name those actors.
shareNo takers, huh? That trivial is not hard. Bob Denver and Tina Louise have had crossed eyes that require bangs and special angles that leveling their eyes as possible, but you can see some scenes show them naturally.
There is one thing that bugs me...I don't like so called fans of "Gilligan's Island" behaving rude, calling them on their flaws or on their kids like they did to Tina's daughter, Caprice.
OK, onward next trivial, name one thing Gilligan wants to have when he gets back to United States.
Have a hamburger
shareRight and what did Gilligan say what he wants on hamburger?
shareWhat pieces of jewelry did we see Gilligan wearing and in what episodes?
shareTHIS IS THE LAST TIME I AM PLAYING THIS TRIVIAL!!! I didn't say you had won-gonbaoji! I just going to answer the question tomorrow and turn it over to you, gonbaoji. Apparently none cares what did Gilligan wants on his hamburger and that was included in the first question and no one remembers👎.I was not using it as the second question.☝
shareLets move on please.
shareIt was the ring from the mad scientist and the clover good luck charm necklace.
What instrument did Irving play in the Mosquitoes?
Bass?
shareCorrect skipper
shareIn Gilligan's Mother-In-Law, what was Gilligan doing when the native family first saw him?
shareTrying to catch butterflies.
shareThat's right.
shareAnyone have a question?
shareIt's your turn, Gonbaoji
Or are you giving your turn to someone else?
Yeah skipper, I was giving someone else a shot.
shareThen next time, post "Someone else can take a turn" after you get one right. Don't wait almost a week before stupidly asking "Anyone have a question?"
Ben why don't you go chill out and I wish you would take your rudeness and leave this thread altogether.
People who play here know, if 2 days have passed they can go ahead and ask a question. Life gets busy and sometimes one can't always get back here. So hey go stuff yourself!
Thanks gonbaoji.
In what episode was Rock Hudson first mentioned?
A Nose By Any Other Name?
shareGood guess, but it was a much earlier S1 ep.
Hint: Gilligan's life story
Time's up
Correct answer is Three Million Dollars More or Less. Ginger suggested that Rock Hudson could star in a movie based on Gilligan's life.
Next question: In what episode was Cary Grant first mentioned?
Hint: Ginger's wish
"Three to Get Ready"?
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
No, earlier episode -- think, We've seen some of this before
"Birds Gotta Fly, Fish Gotta Talk"?
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
You got it, darryl -- Cary Grant was mentioned for the first time when Ginger said she wanted him for Xmas, but didn't think he'd fit in her stocking.
You're on
Thank you, ben.
What food was prepared for the castaways' first meal, what was that meal, and who prepared the food?
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
Hint: The meal was a rain-out, and asking "who prepared it" should eliminate the usual suspect.
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
Powdered eggs by The Skipper; and I think Mr. Howell suggested powdered eggs benedict.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Partial credit: There is another food item the Skipper mentions. Do you know it?
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
I think he also mentioned fruit.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
DING! DING! DING! Give that poster a coconut cream pie!
Your go.
------------------
"Here is the ice you ordered, Mr. Ismay." – Titanic Captain E.J. Smith
In "Up At Bat," what specific continuity appears in Gilligan's dream?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Been over 2 days, caladon...time to drop a hint or reveal the answer and ask another question 💭
Okey dokey:
As they are on the island they are in the dream.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
I'll guess...
The Howells are rich; Professor is the smart Sherlock; Skipper is a Colonel; Ginger is a 'vamp'; Gilligan is a klutzy vampire; and Mary Ann is...an ugly old servant?!
Actually, the answer is that the Howell's pretty much play themselves in the dream, rich married couple and he has his teddy bear. And although it's been awhile, I think they addressed each other with the same names. However, since you mentioned the Howells first, I'll give it to you.
Your turn.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
At least five episodes end with Mr Howell very upset/nearly in tears:
Will the Real Mr Howell Please Stand Up
Agonized Labor
The Matchmaker
Name two others.
Goodbye Old Paint & Splashdown.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Splashdown is correct. GOP ends with Skipper and Mr H admiring Gilligan's painting skills.
Hint: where there's a will
X Marks the Spot
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Correct
Name at least two characters that went to the island without being on the island.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
I don't know if this counts as they were far above the island but I will guess Tobias and Ryan from Splashdown?
shareAnd we have a winner; Tobias and Ryan are correct. Also acceptable would've been Bancroft and Corwell from Smile, You're on Mars Camera and the pilot and co-pilot (BTW, the same actor that played Ryan) from Gilligan Goes Gung-Ho.
Well done Skipper; over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
What act of violence was inflicted upon Gilligan, Mr. Howell and Ginger and why?
shareKnocked out/incapacitated so their doubles could assume their identity?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
That's right.
shareThanks, skipper.
Other than another set of castaways getting rescued, what is the rescue discrepancy in "Birds Gotta Fly, Fish Gotta Talk"?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
The radio first stated that a Navy destroyer was being sent to pick up the castaways and later the radio announced that they were heading back on a Coast Guard Cutter.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
That is the discrepancy.
Your turn, caladon.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
What common experience do Gilligan, Skipper, Mr. Howell and to a lesser degree Ginger have in common?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
The other castaways thinking that their lookalikes were them?
shareThanks caladon
Name the only two episodes in which the six regulars were seen before Alan Hale made his first appearance.
Hint?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Oxygen tank
Glow in the dark rocks
Thanks, ben.
"Where There's a Will"
"Gilligan Goes Gung-Ho"
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
You got em! Alan showed up after everyone else appeared and had lines.
Your turn
Complete the numerical sequence: 5, 6, 7, 8, __, __, __.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
If it's from the episode The Kidnapper where Gilligan is adding small extra paces to the tree to get to a count of 12, then I'll guess: 9, 10, 11, 12.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
No. The sequence is not tied to any specific episode. It pertains to something pervasive, indeed vital, to the castaways' lives.
ETA: There are three numbers to fill the sequence.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Hint: Charles Maxwell can be "found" there.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
9, 11, 16 - The numbers on their AM radio dial.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
You have tuned into the right frequency, caladon. Nicely done!
Your go.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Thank you; great question.
Name 2 CBS shows that were mentioned on GI.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Gunsmoke and Mr.Ed
share'Perry Mason', and 'The Twilight Zone' were both mentioned by name on GI. While 'Gunsmoke' was certainly referenced in a couple of eps, I don't believe the title was ever said.
Correct benGsboat, both Twilight Zone and Perry Mason were mentioned by name.
Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thanks caladon
In Season 1, Gilligan often wore a light colored T-shirt. In what color episode did we find out it was pale blue?
"Erika Tiffany Smith to the Rescue"?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Good eye, darryl -- he's not actually wearing it, but you can see it hanging in the wardrobe when they're packing. You also see Gilligan put another pair of blue pants and an extra red & white shirt into his duffel bag!
Take it away
https://media.giphy.com/media/12tsT9NuX8jPI4/giphy.gif
Thanks, ben.
What did Mr. Howell think was the reason why Eva came to the island?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Hint: Answer could be arrived at by process of deduction . . .
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Going by the word in italics, I'd say tax evasion.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Which Mr. Howell knows about all too well.
Correct! Your go, caladon.
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Although it was used by everyone, which castaway actually claimed ownership to the radio even though there appeared to be evidence to the contrary?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Mr. Howell
shareCorrect gonbaoji; even though Skipper finds an extra set of batteries on the boat that he had forgotten about. I also thought it was funny that when the first set of batteries died it was discovered that they were made by the Thurston Howell battery company.
Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thank you. Tell me the complete name and model of the radio.
sharePackard Bell AR-851
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
Correct.
shareThanks, gonbaoji.
Which episode featured "Operation Powderkeg"?
------------------
"The past is never dead. It isn't even past." -- William Faulkner
It's Magic, Gilligan Goes Gung-Ho, and Where There's a Will all feature a cake. Name two other episodes where a cake is seen.
https://media.giphy.com/media/2C4qsuQxRX3aM/giphy.gif
Hints:
Someone ate half of it
No one ate any of it
Hmm, I thought that would be fairly easy...
The correct answers are 'Waiting For Watubi' and 'Gilligan Gets Bugged'. In both episodes a cake is seen on the table (one half eaten, apparently by the skipper; the other not eaten at all, as Gilligan is left alone after lighting the candles).
Well, someone else can take a turn...I've officially run out of trivia questions 😢
Ben, I knew GGB but I could not for the life of me come up with WFW.
Next question:
Why was Ginger wearing an evening dress on the three hour tour?
She had just finished a club gig?
shareThat's right.
shareEasy one...name the episodes where candles are used.
shareGilligan Gets Bugged?
shareThe Big Gold Strike, Allergy Time & The Second Ginger Grant.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Good job caladon, those were the episodes in my mind.
shareThanks; a few more that I remember were Ship Ahoax, Big Man On A Little Stick and The Matchmaker.
Next question:
Who is Tropical Tom?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Isn't he a DJ or host on one of the radio programs Gilligan listens to?
------------------
"We hear very little, and we understand even less." -- refugee in "Casablanca"
Correct; Tropical Tom was the host of the exercise show that Gilligan was listening to when he had caught the fish that had swallowed the radio.
Well done; over to you darryl-tahirali
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thank you, caladon.
What was the name of Ginger's last movie?
------------------
"We hear very little, and we understand even less." -- refugee in "Casablanca"
Hint: Ginger tells Wiley.
------------------

Wiley: I saw you in your last picture: Moon Over the Mowhawk
Ginger: That wasn't title. It was about an Indian astronaut called Mowhak Over The Moon.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
That's the one--good job!
Your go, caladon.
------------------
"We hear very little, and we understand even less." -- refugee in "Casablanca"
Thank you.
Next question:
What one identical thing happens in both "Up At Bat" and "The Secret of Gilligan's Island."
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Same bat is used?
shareClose; very close.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Hint: Bat behavior
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
All I've got is that the bat directly menaces Ginger and Mary Ann when they're both together, first in the girls' hut ("Up at Bat"), then in the cave ("The Secret of Gilligan's Island").
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
That's all you need; you're correct.
Each episode has a scene where Mary Ann and Ginger are under bat attack.
Well done darryl-tahirali, over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thanks, caladon!
In what state was Gilligan born? (Geographical state, not mental or psychological!)
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
Pennsylvania?
shareYes! A small town in, as stated in "And Then There Were None."
Good job, skipper! Your go.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
In Where There's A Will, Mrs. Howell was going to make bandages out of one of Mr. Howell's shirts. How did Mr. Howell acquire the shirt that Mrs. Howell chose?
shareTime's up. Mr. Howell's imposter came to the island wearing the shirt. He switched his clothes with Mr. Howell and left while Mr. Howell was still wearing the shirt.

The Gnats.

Well, that was too easy . . . good job!
Your go, caladon.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence

------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
Kit Smythe, John Gabriel and Nancy McCarthy?
shareYou are correct, Skipper! Good job!
Both episodes recycle footage from the pilot episode "Marooned," which features the three actors aboard the freshly shipwrecked Minnow as the Skipper (appropriately enough here) awakes with "The Professor," "Ginger," and "Mary Ann" sleeping on deck. If you look closely, you can see that they are not Russell Johnson, Tina Louise, or Dawn Wells.
Your go.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
What was the Professor saying when he was turned into a zombie?
share"I've told you time after time....

------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
That's right.
shareThank you, skipper.
Which baseball team does Ginger refer to?
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
The Dodgers?
shareGood guess, but no.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
How about the Yankees?
shareNot the Yankees.
Hint: Ginger claims to be bird-watching while the castaways are searching for Gilligan's diary.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
The Phillies?
Sorry--not the Phillies.
Hints: Bird. Currently in the same division as the Yankees. Boog Powell.
------------------
"Meretricious persiflage!" -- D.H. Lawrence
It's time to retire this question.

I'll say The Saga of Hemp Brown (1958) with Rory Calhoun and Russell Johnson.
I've never seen it, but RJ's character is named "Hook," which sure sounds like a villain to me.
------------------
Trump is Putin's bitch.
Well done darryl-tahirali; The Saga of Hemp Brown is correct. I've seen the film, runs a little long for a western, but it's an interesting movie.
Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thank you, caladon. Here is a question in the same vein.

Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thanks!
In the James Bond movies, the evil criminal organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E. had an octopus as their symbol. Members wore a ring with the image of an octopus on it. This iconography was maintained in the recent Daniel Craig "Bond" film "SPECTRE." [The whole title sequence is based around the tentacles of an octopus.]
In the "Secret Agent Gilligan" Bond parody of "The Invasion," the organization known as E.V.I.L. also has a symbol (if you look closely).
What is it?
Shark?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Hint #2: Like an octopus, E.V.I.L.'s symbol also has eight legs...
A spider?
shareYep!
If you look on the world map behind Mr. Evil in his headquarters, you can see that there are spiders of various sizes drawn all over it - probably intended to indicate various E.V.I.L. headquarters, agents, or operations. It's a nice and subtle nod to S.P.E.C.T.R.E. in the Bond films.
[On The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the evil organization, THRUSH, had a bird (a "thrush") as its symbol. On Get Smart, the symbol of KAOS was a vulture perched atop a globe.]
The spiders are not real easy to see on DVD (I noticed them for the first time last week), so I suspect they were all but invisible when the episode was seen on analog TV's.
Your turn, gonbaoji...

shareMushrooms?
shareNo, but keep guessing skipper.
shareCarrots?
shareCorrect,,good job!
shareSomebody else can have my turn. I can't think of a thing!
shareSo many good questions have been asked. Hate to see this thread die after so many years.
On that note..
In the Smile your On Mars Camera episode- Where did Mr. Howell think Mrs. Howell put her hand when Ginger was trying to pull her ring off?
In a gorilla's nest?
shareThank you yes!!!
shareWhat 2 TV series of the 60's are mentioned in "Plant You Now, Dig You Later"?
share'The Defenders' and 'Perry Mason'
That's right!
I don't know much about "The Defenders" except that one of its stars was Robert Reed, who would go on to play the father on Sherwood Schwartz' other hit, "The Brady Bunch."
Your turn, benGsboat.

Thanks, El
In what episode does Gilligan display an American flag?
Good question.
Was it the episode where he was President and had it displayed in his hut/office?
One would think so, but there was no flag in 'President Gilligan'
Like sands through the hourglass...so are the days of our lives.
The correct answer is 'V for Vitamins'. In the last scene, a US flag is at the top of Gilligan's lemonade dispenser 👍
Here's another doozy: Name the only episode that begins and ends with Gilligan & Skipper in their hammocks.
"Ghost A-Go-Go"?
Good guess, but no. That one ends with the spooky turtle in Skipper's shirt!
"Nyet, Nyet! Not Yet!" ?
shareThat's the one! Opens with Skipper snoring and keeping Gilligan awake, ends with G falling on top of him because of his terrible knot-tying skills
Your turn, El
I'm pretty sure that the skipper refers to Gilligan as an albatross at least once (but maybe not)...
What episode title references a famous poem featuring an albatross?
"Water, Water Everywhere;" it was a line from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Exactly right, caladon! Your turn.
shareThank you ElRaisuli
In one of the episodes, the Professor attributed a famous quotation to the wrong person. What was the quotation, who was wrongly given credit, who should've been given credit and in what episode did this occur?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
