GI Trivia Part 12
Part 11 is 'Read-only' now.
skipper is on board to ask the next question
What fairy tale is the beginning and end of Our Vines Have Tender Apes like?
shareGoldilocks and Three Bears
shareThat's right.
shareTo borrow a page from ben's book--In "Our Vines Have Tender Apes", there is a goof at the beginning regarding Mary Ann. What it is?
shareThe only thing I can think of is whatever she did to her face with the makeup pencil, she seemed to do it too quickly. Unless she was just adding some quick finishing touches to what was already done...
Hi ben,
That is not answer, but you are getting really close.
Hmm, if I'm close...I'll guess that most of the stuff on her face looked like it was done with something much darker and heavier than the eyebrow pencil she used.
The answer has nothing to do what stuff she applied to her makeup. It concerns why.
You are little way off.
I don't know if my question's time is up or not since I get answers in last few hours.
Mary Ann applied makeup after Tongo got a good long look at her and Ginger when they shopped for food in jungle and he knew they looked pretty. That made it a goof.
Next question is what is the title of the book Ginger is reading in "The Second Ginger Grant" when Skipper walks to her and talks.
Thanks!
"My poor little buddy" is heard in Up at Bat, Water Water Everywhere, It's Magic, Mine Hero, and A Nose By Any Other Name.
Name two other episodes in which Skipper says it.
Gilligan Gets Bugged and The Hunter?
shareYou would think so, skipper...but no.
Time's up, guys
Two correct answers are Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow ("My poor little buddy, out in that damp cave all alone"); And Then There Were None ("My poor little buddy. He thinks he turned into Mr Hyde and killed us all")
Okay, next question:
In Gilligan the Goddess, Mr Howell called Gilligan a "dunce" for trapping King Kaliwani and his men in a net. What did Gilligan do in another S3 episode that prompted Skipper to call him the same thing?
Time's up again
Skipper called Gilligan a dunce when he didn't recognize the castaways in the photo the bird brought back at the end of 'The Pigeon'.
Someone else take a turn
Here is an easy one. What did the skipper use for his head when making his dummy in the Ghost episode?
shareIIRC he wanted to use a coconut but couldn't find one big enough and then said he'd probably end up using a gourd.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
You are correct.
shareIn Bang! Bang! Bang! there is a specific connection between at least four of the regular cast and one of the supporting cast; what is it?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
I'll guess the TV series '77 Sunset Strip'
Guest star Bartlett Robinson appeared on that show, as did Alan Hale, Dawn Wells, Natalie Schafer, Jim Backus, and Russell Johnson.
You're correct. The common denominator is Bartlett Robinson. In addition to what you mentioned, he also appeared in the same productions as:
Tina Louise - Both appeared in the movie The Wrecking Crew.
Russell Johnson - Both appeared in the Twilight Zone episode Back There.
Bob Denver - He appeared in an episode of Dobie Gillis.
Alan Hale - Both appeared in the movie Battle Hymn.
Well done ben; over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
[deleted]
Thanks caladon
Besides 'Goodnight Sweet Skipper', name an episode in which Gilligan mimics three specific weapons.
Take a Dare?
shareExactly right, hsd! He mimicked a blow gun, a hand grenade, and a throwing knife.
Your turn ☺
Thanks, ben! I was not completely sure if that episode is you meant.
In "Castaway Pictures Presents", why Ginger is eager to kiss Professor?
That scene never fails to crack me up!
Too thank him, or he just really got her going. :)
shareNot really, gonbaoji.;0.
What makes people think they are in love, but it is something else??:)
Good old fashioned lust. After all, Ginger hadn't kissed anyone like that in a long while, I'm sure.
Did you ever read Bob Denver's bio? At the time he was made at Tina, and he snarked about her lusting after everyone, including gorillas!
Ephemeron.
Righto, ben. As usual, you win hands down.
What makes it funnier that men- Professor and Howell hadn't slight clues. Howell keeps cutting her off when she launches into "How I can ever thank you?" speech twice, prompts her to look at the camera with miserable face.
And Professor hadn't an idea how male's body works makes me laughs since he finds kiss is excited and he likes it after all.
Whoever came with that idea of Ginger as sexually frustrated, Professor as sexually repressed and Howell as clueless is brilliant.:)
Thanks hot
'Up at Bat' and 'Gilligan's Personal Magnetism' are two episodes in which the skipper helps Gilligan into his hammock.
Name two others.
I'm going to guess "The Secret Of GIlligan's Island" and "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow."
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Right, caladon -- good guesses! 'Quick Before it Sinks' is another.
Your turn
What specific thing does building a playroom and stringing coconut telephone lines have in common?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Hint: From one thing to another.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
A net
shareNice guess, but not the correct answer.
Hint#2: Start and stop.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Both projects were abandoned before they were finished.
Spot on, ben; well done.
Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Just an observation here...even though G messed up the colored vines, I would assume they were completed because as we know, they all went on to make phone calls. At least I thought they had to be up for them to do so?
sharecaladon was referring to the coconut and string telephone that Skipper and Gilligan used in 'Angel on the Island' (never seen/mentioned again).
Next question:
In 'X Marks the Spot', Lovey corrected Ginger and Thurston for using "who" and "whom" incorrectly; in 'Ghost a Go-Go', she pondered whether "whom" was used correctly by Mr H.
In what other episode did a castaway say the correct "who" when the incorrect "whom" was said?
Hint: radio, Professor
Time's up. The correct answer is 'Gilligan Meets Jungle Boy'.
In the last scene, we hear the radio announcer say that JB didn't make the balloon himself -- "He had help...but whom?" The professor quickly replies "Who!"
Next question:
When Mr Howell asked his beloved bear "Do you know what he's talking about, Teddy?", to whom and what was he referring?
I'm going to guess that he was talking to the Professor; it was either the time he wanted to talk to Mr. Howell about his obsession with money or when brought Mr. Howell to the spot where the other castaways had disappeared.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Right caladon. It was the professor, after he mentioned his theory in the episode 'And Then There Were None'. Loved Mr Howell's night-cap.
You're on
In "The Big Gold Strike," when Mr. Howell refused to share the gold with the others, they decided to get their share by charging the Howell's for everything they needed. What previous information made this unnecessary?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
The castaways had already agreed to share everything after being shipwrecked. Charging the Howells was reneging on that agreement. Of course, they were only doing it to teach Mr Howell a lesson.
Absolutely correct ben; well done - over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thanks, caladon!
In 'Diamonds Are an Ape's Best Friend', Mr Howell offered a $10,000 reward to anyone who found Lovey's brooch. Name two other episodes in which he was willing to offer that same amount as a reward.
Hint: missing person
When Ginger was kidnapped by Wiley? The other one when Mr. Howell offered a reward for anyone who could get him off the island.
shareSorry, no. He paid the ransom demands in 'The Kidnapper' and offered $1 million in 'Will the Real Mr Howell Please Stand Up'.
Time's up, unfortunately. The correct answers are 'Water, Water, Everywhere' and 'Gilligan's Personal Magnetism'. In both episodes, Mr H said he would offer a $10,000 reward to find Gilligan.
Next question: One of the few times the Howells kissed each other on the lips was in 'Lovey's Secret Admirer'. Name another episode where this was seen.
Just guessing, but was it in "So Sorry, My Island Now," when they were let out of their respective bamboo cages?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Good guess caladon, but no. Mr H kissed her on the cheek.
The Friendly Physician, AFTER Mrs. Howell and Skipper returned to their own bodies? HA HA!!
shareThe only other one that comes to mind is when Mr. Howell crashes his own funeral service in "Where There's A Will."
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
No kiss for the Howells in that one, skipper...but it would have been funny to see Lovey belt Thurston before the switch back to normal! Ginger planted a good one on Dr Balinkoff earlier, though!
And you got it, caladon -- a quick peck on the lips when she ran over to him. They also kissed goodnight in 'The Sweepstakes', just before his Old West dream (the one in which Lovey, strangely, did not appear).
Your turn, caladon 😊
Universal Studios has for years been associated with famous iconic "monsters;" Frankenstein and Dracula among them. Both of these have been either mentioned or referenced in GI episodes.
There is one episode where two of these iconic "monsters" were referenced. What is the episode and who/what were the "monsters?"
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Wikowski
McInerny
Lefkowicz
Ferguson
Entwhistle
Harris
What name is missing from this list of men who fought with the skipper in the Battle of Guadalcanal?
Laryngitis?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
No, but funny guess.
No other name is missing?
Sorry, no
Hint: same last name as a current Hollywood star
Evans?
shareRight, hoosiers! His name was said in the first scene of 'Good Night Sweet Skipper', along with Harris and Ferguson (who were mentioned again later with the four other men).
You're on
In some episodes, Skipper called Mr. H only "Howell" when he lost his temper (e.g. "Just a minute, Howell!", "Now see here, Howell!")
In what back to back episodes, however, did Skipper call him "Howell" without being the least bit upset or angry with him?
Hints:
A supreme sacrifice
Admiring Gilligan's talent
Hi Fi Gilligan? I don't know where "admiring Gilligan's talent" fits into that but Gilligan certainly made a sacrifice in that episode.
shareNo, sorry skipper -- was looking for back to back episodes. The hints were for each one. Time's up, too...it's been over 2 days since the question was asked.
The correct answers are 'It's Magic' and 'Goodbye, Old Paint'. In that first ep, Mr. H says he made the "supreme sacrifice" of giving Teddy to Gilligan. That prompts Skipper to remark "Howell, I gotta take my hat off to you..."
At the end of 'GOP', Skipper and Mr. H are watching Gilligan paint. Skipper says "Look at that, Howell. I wanna tell ya, it does prove that talent shows up in the most unlikely places."
Next question: In the episode 'Our Vines Have Tender Apes', we see Ginger faint; in 'The Second Ginger Grant', we see Mary Ann faint. Name another episode in which only one of them is seen fainting.
I believe that Ginger faints in "Ship Ahoax" just as the first seance scene where they hear on the radio that ships will be searching the area is ending; causing the Skipper and Gilligan to collide.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Thanks, caladon
"Voodoo Something to Me", "Wrongway Feldman", "Beauty Is as Beauty Does", and "Gilligan Goes Gung-Ho" have something very specific in common --
What is it?
In 'Goodbye Old Paint', Ginger showed Dubov the pose that the photographers liked best. In what later episode did she strike that near-identical pose?
Hint: 'new' wardrobe
"The Second Ginger Grant"?
shareNice goin, hot! Exactly right. At the end of the ep, Ginger wore her 'new' mini-dress and did that sultry, leaning back, left leg forward pose that she did in "GOP" (the one Dubov didn't like!!).
Take it away
Thanks, ben!
Ouch! I am a fan of Tina as Ginger and I don't remember her pose in Goodbye Old Paint. That is why it hurts! But it is interesting observation on your part. My part is noting her another way of being sexy is pulling her hair to top of her head in Castaway Pictures Presents. There is another way of her getting sexy is in the opening credits, but it is trick borrowed from Marilyn Monroe...you know sleeping eyes, whispering voice, and lips apart.
My trivia is there is a famous Ginger outfit used in first season of "I Dream of Jeannie" beside the famous gown. And I think that gown was used in "Walk on Wild Side" worn by Jane Fonda who acted like Ginger in that 1962 movie. What is her another famous Ginger outfit used in "I Dream of Jeannie?
Hint: That outfit is for a pin up photos.
shareI have no idea but going to guess a swimsuit.
shareYup!!You are absolutely correct!!:)
It is a leopard bikini Ginger wore in The Little Dictator. In first season of "I Dream of Jeannie", there is an actress wearing the same leopard bikini in The Russian Roulette--despite its title has nothing with holding a gun to the head. That is the only time a woman who has control over Jeannie in "I Dream of Jeannie".
What episode was Elvis mentioned and by who?
shareWhat episode was Elvis mentioned and by who?
shareBongo in Don't Bug The Mosquitoes ("...tighter than Presley's pants")?
shareYou got it skipper.
shareWhat was Ginger's argument as to why Jonathan Kincaid shouldn't hunt her?
share"I'm a girl"
share"I'm a girl"
shareThat's right.
shareWhat was the skippers real name?
shareJonas Grumby
shareCorrect
shareThank you, gonbaoji.:)
In New Neighbor Sam, a prop called "Jewel Crackers" box was seen. Name two episodes of "Gilligan's Island" it was seen twice again.
Hint:
One episode is about explosive device and other deals with bad hair day.
"Mine Hero" and "Hair Today Gone Tomorrow" have featured "Jewel Crackers" box. Mary Ann has the box for her stuff. Professor invented a floating SOS device that was never used and he needed more metal for it in Mine Hero.
Gilligan has it in Hair Today Gone Tomorrow. He willed his stuff in it for gals.
Next question is what episode we finally learned it was Gilligan shipwrecked the boat??
"Court-martial"
shareYes!! High Five!!✋
shareWhat episode title is a parody of the title of a Eugene O'Neill play?
shareThe Postman Cometh?
shareCorrect. It's reminiscent of "The Iceman Cometh."
shareOkay, Here is a trivia question.
In Take a Dare, Howell offers his $15,000 and his wife bids against him, raising the price. It ends with "Lovey, you are bidding against me!" "I am sorry, but I tend to be carried away at auction". Those dialogue was repeated again in third season between two friends. But the dialogue left out "But I tend to be carried away at auction".
Forgot to write the question.
What episode of third season this dialogue is repeated??
Would it be when Mary Ann bid against Ginger when they were trying to outbid the Howells for Kalani's services?
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
Bingo, caladon!! You win!!
I don't know why the writers thought the dialogue was funny. It was not funny in "Take a Dare" and it was not funny either in "Slave Girl". I am very puzzled as to why they wanted to repeat the dialogue.
Name two times that Gilligan did the impossible until the Skipper pointed out that it was impossible.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
I can think of the one time when he was trying to fly.
shareCorrect; one down, one to go.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
The other was from the episode "It's Magic" in the tag scene where Gilligan is showing the Skipper how he can levitate a table.
Well done gonbaoji; you provided the other example.
Over to you.
Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.
In the episode where Gilligan thinks he is a headhunter and the totem pole; after Skipper is captured by real headhunters, how many Marines did he say were waiting to rescue them?
share600
shareCorrect
shareWhich episode title is a phrase taken from the world of baseball?
shareUp at Bat...or Their Off and Running
shareI was thinking of "Up at Bat," but your other answer is good too.
shareIn the Up At Bat episode...what was the "first clue" we hear about?
shareSomeone is screaming.
shareCorrect
shareIn the dream sequence in "Up at Bat," who plays the part of Whatney?
shareSkipper
shareCorrect.
shareWhen did it ever snow on the island?
shareNever.
But volcanic ash looked like snow in Operation Steam Heat.
Correct
