No skeletons in the UK version?

I just watched the bluray with the commentary, and the man cohosting with Ray Harryhausen said the UK version didn't have the skeleton fight at the end.

Is that right?

How can you not have this movie with the skeletons? It's not the same movie 

... and the skeleton fight was clearly there. Maybe there was some controversy about the appropriate rating for the film: were the bony actors too scary for kids?

"As quickly as you can ... snatch the pebble from my hand." Honga-Hula!

I have watched this several times on UK television, and at least once on the UK DVD release. I also believe a few years back I saw it on the UK video cassette release too.

There has never been a time that I've seen a version of the movie where the skeletons did not appear.

reply

Same here. It was one of the first movies I saw at the cinema as a kid, and it showed regularly on TV throughout the 70s and 80s.

Never seen a screening with the skeleton scene cut.

reply

Ditto. First saw this on UK TV in the early 70s. Watched it numerous times since. The skeletons are always there.

reply

Same. Once seen regularly on TV and always had skeletons.

Skeletons? You talking about skeletons?

reply

Tell the man cohosting with Ray Harryhausen to GET STUFFED!!!!

reply

I heard about that. Those in charge of such things thought it would scare the kids!

reply

This is my favourite Ray Harryhausen movie. I have never seen a version that did not include the skeleton fight.

reply

One scene was cut, not all the skeleton stuff.
