I detest her in every movie I've ever seen her in. That said, I guess it's a testament to her acting skills. Perhaps, in reality, she wasn't nearly as annoying.

She was good at the roles she did. Very talented. Maybe a bit typecast. In real life, she was nothing like that.

Movie girl: She was great in Night of the Hunter, A Double Life, etc. Here Charlotte is shown as a needy widow who is very lonely. She tries to impress Humbert on their first meeting. He would have shunned her, but was introduced to the daughter, Lolita. And though it makes Humbert a pedophile, I think he really cared for her and wanted a future with her always. THough it was wrong, she consented to be with him. He was unaware at the time of her affair with Quilty.

In this film I felt a lot of pity of Charlotte, who deserved better. Though she was pushy, this was a terrible thing. And HUmbert was sorry for an instant and then was able to divert to dreams of Lolita.

I think she's outstanding. She took roles that called for her to portray unattractive, brassy, unlikeable women -- something most actresses wouldn't want to do.

I fully agree. Despite the unpleasant roles she played sometimes, I've always found something endearing about her.

That's what I meant. ..she'd play her characters so flawlessly that I dislike her characters and absolutely believed her as the character. I'm making a hash of it....I think (hope) y'all understand.

I also agree with everyone. Shelley made my skin crawl. I only realize now that that was her actress ability, and that made her very good indeed. I never saw her in a movie that she did not repulse me. Lolita was a great slate for her ability to shrivel all that is manly in me !!

Wow, I had forgotten about her being on Roseanne, she was hilarious!
