Double standard
I watched this film for the first time recently. I noticed a double standard when it came to the depiction of sex. Both Paul and Holly are selling themselves to others. In Paul's case , he is a kept man being looked after by 2E, his " decorator,". We actually see her leaving the money on the bed stand. Holly sees it too from outside, sitting on his balcony.
In Holly's case, it is implied that he is a good time girl who is on the look out for a rich man. How else has she survived in New York when she has no job and is not independently wealthy? Audrey Hepburn is such a charming actress that her actual profession is hinted at , but you catch the drift. It is interesting to compare this film with Butterfield 8 starring Elizabeth Taylor.
