most underated of his films
i think so
shareThe Hidden Fortress is pretty underrated, but lets not forget about The Bad Sleep Well or Yume. Both of those were really great, yet they don't get nearly the same level of recognition as Throne of Blood, Yojimbo or even this fine film.
In truth, I don't think Kurosawa has made a bad film. They are all great (at least from what I have seen), and each one is unique in its own way.
The Bad Sleep Well is definitely the most underrated, one of Kurosawas best five films and it's not on the top 250.
shareI think all of Kurosawas except Rashomon, Seven Samurai, and Ran are underrated. Hah by no means do I think those 3 are overrated. They are the only ones though that get the recognition they deserve.
I love Kurosawa.
I love Kurosawa.
I definatley feel it doesnt get as much attention as his other films. Heck if it wasnt for George Lucas talking about it as an influence it might not even be in print in the west. I wish the DVD had a commentary track. I love the shots and the 2 greedy peasants are hilarious.
Sorry to say so, but I find it a bit OVERrated. I gave it a 6. However, I am going to watch it once more, so maybe I'll change my mind.
shareSuch a stupid piece of bore with illogical dialogue. If you want to see a TRULY underrated Kurosawa masterpiece, watch "Akira Kurosawa's Dream". It's one of my favorite films of all time.
"Sunset Blvd sucks. Norbit rules. I rest my case".
In case people are interested, this movie was rated in the 600s on the They Shoot Pictures, Don't They website which polls around 2000 critics. I personally rate this film as an 8/10 and no. 7 on my Kurosawa list, and no. 275 all-time on my list (includes over 30% non-english films). For me 8/10 is a very good movie. Some people above describe it as "wonderful" - what does that really mean? What score does that equate to and where does it rate on your all-time list?
sharei'm on my 8th or 9th Kurosawa film, and loved this. it has kind of the tone of Yojimbo but with the grand scale of Throne of Blood. this is a great movie in my opinion.
shareoh, well
everybody lives till the end - happy ending ... naff
all the blood you see is on the face of the dying samurai/ soldier in the opening... naff
