The Hidden Fortress vs Star Wars

Of course i read what has been sad about the story being told by two lesser characters like in star wars, but while watching this movie i never had the feeling like "gee this movie really reminds of star wars". I think this movie was a lot deeper then star wars and for some maybe a little less entertaining.

I think this is a cool adventure movie about sin and honor. The two lesser characters weren't only corrupted by money but also corrupted by lust. As where the general is very loyal and can keep from temptation.

Its funny reading this discussion, seeing how so many people are saying that Avatar can´t touch Star Wars because the latter is much more original.

well not story but the characters are what made star wars better.

I love Kurosawa and I hate Lucas, but still Star Wars is much better film (in my oppinion).

Lucas didnt do it ofr the money, he was one of the students at his film school to excell, and remember his first film was thx-1138 and tht was HATED by all producers and if it wasnt for Francis-Ford Coppola then he would be working at s 2 bit hack. However If my memory is correct Im pretty sure the Producers didnt like Star wars soo much either.(unitl it made a *beep* load of dosh, and luckily mr Lucas has all the rights on merchantdise) and I doubt he would of been going out on a limb for the money. Sci-Fi was unheard of back then. but as luck would it have it he did exceedingly well and in turn made alot of money. but personally im happy for him, cause Star wars Rocks. This is good too, but hey c'mon its no Star wars...seriously...

I like Star Wars, but Hidden Fortress is still a better film. Star Wars is much easier to watch (what would you expect... we grew up with it) and faster paced, so many people probably prefer it. Hidden Fortress is actually my least favorite Kurosawa film...

I'm not going there to die. I'm going to find out if I'm really alive.

The original Star Wars was a piece of genius regardless of whether different things were taken from other stories. As has been said, there are very few 100% original stories being made. Lucas jumped his own shark with the prequel trilogy. Yes they were below average from a story and writing perspective. However they do not diminish what Lucas accomplished in 1977. You can't discredit Star Wars impact on the world of film and the world in general. It was something that was like nothing else.

i remember it reminding me a little like the phantom menace as well as a new hope. i think the crying princess reminded me of amidala. i have to watch it again it's been 20 years.
