Mulholland Drive
Persona
Viridiana
Amelie
Elephant Man

P.S. if you asked me to do this again, right now, i would probably give 5 completely different movies. it's just too hard.

reply

It is impossible to pick 5. There are at least 500 that I would take to a desert island. I know that's NOT the question here. Like many of your here, I have divergent tastes.

Many of your choices so far are also mine. Some of your choices are merely stageplays transferred to the screen. I think that movies which could ONLY be made on the silver screen should qualify as movies, as such. For example, I challenge anyone to put 2001 A Space Odyssey on the stage...but 12 Angry Men...unarguably a great film...is still only a stage play transferred to the screen. In fact it was a teleplay first.

By the way, I am so glad to see that no one chose The Godfather movies. Completely overrated.
