Can people explain to me the appeal of MAVERICK as a western over say The Rifleman or Cheyenne. Personally I LOVE MAVERICK. But I am having a hard time with WHY I LOVE MAVERICK SO MUCH. Can other people explain there appeal to MAVERICK as well.
shareMaverick is written with very modern sensibilities. For all the points listed by others in this thread. Good humor, diverse stories, great writing, great banter. This is by no means a typical western dealing with bad guys in typical tough jaw fashion. The strength of the Rifleman, which is otherwise a typical formula show, comes from the moral rearing of a child in difficult circumstances. That's its hook. I don't really watch to see how the conflicts are resolved. Maverick on the other hand is a complicated and fun show with lots of hooks where the story of the episodes is the bread and butter, not the growth of the characters.
