People! Claude Daigle was sick!

I get so mad when people try to make a hero out of Claude Daigle. I don't care what anyone says- he wasn't someone to be looked up to or admired. He was a pervert. Claude wanted to marry his own mother!!! (you can ask the lady who cleans because she was present at the time) Ewww!!!!!!!! Please. Stop the hero worship- he doesn't deserve it.

There are a lot of references to the psychology of the time in this movie, namely Freud, like: free association, meaning in dreams, repression, and well, the Oedipus Complex.

It's about time somebody said it!

"What do you want me to do, draw a picture? Spell it out!"

The OP is obviously trolling. Why are people taking him seriously?

Ha ha yes I guess they will always be trolls. My guess is that Claude was a very shy meek little boy that probably did not like to rough house like other boys.

Not to be creepy or anything, but you seem familiar, fallen_anakin. Do you by any chance patronize the Hellraiser board?

And your guess about Claude makes sense.

"He's already attracted to her. Time and monotony will do the rest."

reply

yep.

I don't know if Jimmy Stopsign remains with us after all these years, but his contribution to cinematic analysis holds up.

I just finished watching "Bad Seed" again on TCM, and watching with the knowledge that Claude Daigle is the true villain is revelatory, like listening to Dark Side of the Moon while watching Wizard of Oz.

Most of the repliers on this can't appreciate a good facetious thread. Personally, I got a kick out of Jimmy's topic and thought it was brilliant. It wasn't trolling, it was comedy. Learn to appreciate a joke

This thread was hilarious! Thanks for the laughs. I agree... some people can't take a joke for what it is and just roll with it. I knew instantly this was going to be a comedic thread

reply

Just roll with it? I say.......

Just "troll" with it!

I think that little Claude's remark about wanting to marry his mother goes along with the psychological theorizing that ran through this film (Freud would probably have been amused that people were taking him so damn literally). I don't remember any little boy in my childhood saying he wanted to marry his mother, the Oedipal Complex notwithstanding.

reply

I'm not sure which is more amusing - Jimmy in his opening post or all other posters who've taken him seriously. 

This movie is 55 years old and Claude was like 8. He didn't know about sex, he just wanted to be with his mother forever.

You are one stupid little troll, OP.

The OP's post is funny!
While I do think it was meant to be a compliment that Claude said that to his mother, it was a weird thing to say no doubt.

While Claude was an innocent boy for sure and of course shouldn't have died, I hate to say that I think he would not have had a fun time of things with a mother like his. She was obsessed with him, and he never would have been able to even pee by himself until he was old enough to stand up to her.
The MOTHER was very sick.

You have got to be kidding! We are watching a totally torn apart, heartbroken, extremely devastated character give a very realistic portrayal!

She was SICK alright....with GRIEF!

She was remembering all the endearing things he would say to her. There was nothing strange about her obsessing over him in retrospect...HE WAS DEAD and GONE...never to return to her again! She was trying to hold onto any memory of him that was alive within her heart and her mind!

Claude was a 'gift' to her and Mr. Daigle.....remember they had him late in life.

I totally agree with you, Hillie.

First, Jimmy Stopsign is funny as hell.

Second, little kids often say they want to marry the daddy's or mommy's when they grow up. My son did with me when he was four and five. It's like the best way a little one can say I love you. They react on gut emotion, healthy ones that is. Not little Rhoda though.

As for Claude's mom. Her part in the film, aside from Rhoda, was the best in the whole pic for me. I thought her raw agony and pain was genuine. Like you said, she's just trying to cling to every little rememberance of her son she can think of. She also feels like sh t and guilty, even though there was nothing she could have done to prevent what she can't know would happen.

Frank Cady did a wonderful job too. The look on his face of sadness and grief, quietly trying to follow and take care of his totally crushed wife. OH, before someone dings me, I realize it was Cady's character and not him, I just felt Cady the actor needed recognition for conveying so many emotions so quietly.
I was moved by him as well.

P.S. Hillie, I too was axed unfairly by the evil administrator. I had 5 plus years dumped in the toilet. I was ToniHunterOne. The profile still exists but it's decimated. And I'm still pi ssed about it.
