I've seen lots of musicals and I don't understand why so many of them have long and needless scenes of dancing or dramatics.
Oklahoma is one of them. And the fact that the directors used different actors to do the scenes is terrible. Just to perform the dances. If the actors can't do it what's the point anyway?

shareMore like a nightmare and was totally unnecessary. Spoiled the tone of the film as did the end sequence when Jud sets fire to the haystacks and gets killed. Both these sequences could have been omitted and made the movie lighter and more enjoyable.
I thought it was a very trippy scene. She sniffs the potion from Ali Hakim and hallucinates wildly for 30 minutes.

Don't agree. Dreams ARE odd. I've had dreams where I think a woman is my mother, and she disappears for a long time, and I'm in my home which looks nothing like anywhere I've ever lived.
An artist needs to find ways to convey their vision. Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae likely weren't able to perform the ballet. It's a dream ballet -- why not put real dancers in there? Duh.
I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.
