Am I the only one...
Who wants the husband to get away with it? Lets those cheaters hang!
shareI really thought he was going to get away with it, even if i actually didnt want him to. And it was a relieve and a surprise at the end when he was caught. Plus I didn't sympathize with his character since the beginning so.

"I hate you, I hate us both"
I might seem 'boring' but I didn't want him to get away. I actually thought from the 2 things he did - hiring a hitman to kill his wife, and manipulating evidence so that she is found guilty of murder and executed - the second one was worse. If she had been murdered, then at least she would not have been subject to the humiliation to be sentenced for a crime she did not commit and also face death row and an execution. In the first case, her husband deprived her of her life, but in the second - both of her life and her dignity. I hardly believed he was so villainous to the point of having his wife executed while he was drinking brandy at his home (bought with her money), didn't he have a shred of conscience?
shareI rooted for wendice even up to the last second of the movie..i hoped he would come up with another convincing story as he makes himself a drink in the very last shot!!but alas!!

Maybe it's the Texan in me, but it really bugged me that Mark knew Tony, smiled at him, pretended to be his friend, took his hospitality AND bedded his wife. Margot, as the wife who didn't respect Tony since he didn't want a real job, is going to latch on to whoever is available. Mark is around and available. It was up to Mark to realize there are other women, just say no, this guy (Tony) thinks you are his friend, don't betray that friendship.
shareI hated Mark in this movie - such a self-righteous and egotistical idiot. Keep this is mind: even when Mark thought that Swann was responsible for the murder, he still asked Tony to take the fall for Margot! Essentially, Mark asked him: "Hey Tony! Take the fall for us, spend a few years in prison while I continue to bang your wife!" Is Mark high? Why would Tony do that? Don't get me wrong Tony as still responsible for the entire scheme, but imagine the nerve Mark had asking TOny to do all of these things.
But then again, I think that Hitchcock wanted all three characters to be despicable. Tony was WAY out of line hiring someone to murder his wife, Margot is a gold digger and cheater, and Markā¦.well I goes explain why we should hate Mark.
Its not just the Texan in you lol. I feel the same way you do.
I thought this was going to be one of those "Am I the only one who didn't like this movie?" thread. Ugh...
On topic: Yes, I found myself rooting for Tony, only... Grace Kelly looked just too damn beautiful.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
It would appear that the OP is indeed not the only psychopath on this board.
"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan
He'll go down for conspiracy to murder, serve him right the noxious prat. Adultery? No big deal today, and not that big a deal in '54, people just kept quiet about it. Stiff upper lip and all that. Not like those hysterical Yanks.
