It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958)
In 1973, the first manned expedition to Mars is marooned; by the time a rescue mission arrives, there is only one survivor: the leader, Col. Edward Carruthers, who appears to have murdered the others! According to Carruthers, an unknown life form killed his comrades during a sandstorm. But the skeptical rescuers little suspect that "it" has stowed away for the voyage back to Earth.

German flick "Münchhausen" (with Hans Albers) from 1943 had some pretty moon, err, ladies too.

The Baron Münchhausen and Kuchenreutter escape in a hot air balloon, which takes them to the moon. On the moon, they marvel at how time moves so swiftly: while Münchhausen does not change at all, Kuchenreutter ages rapidly. They meet two inhabitants of the moon, one of whom moves about as a disembodied head. She explains to the Baron how no Earthlings can last more than a day on the Moon before they dry up in smoke and blow away. However, before the Baron can leave the moon, Kuchenreutter has a heart attack and dies in his arms, disappearing in a puff of smoke.

there were movies with aliens in them as far back as films have been made. However, the consensus for many years was that the transition into films being actual science fiction featuring aliens is 1951's "man from planet x"....including the 'sci fi' that followed.

Their are so many earlier, that the mention of 1951's
Man from planet X" is meaningless.

Earlier ones from George Melies in the 1890's.

Impartant ones like "Things To Come", and "Metropolis".

Serials like "Flash Gordon"

Mixed Science fiction Horror ones such as "Frankenstein" and "Invisible Man"

1950 saw "Destination Moon". 1951 included "The Day the Earth stood Still", "The Thing (from another world)", "man From planet x" and "when Worlds Collide"

The Soviets had one, "Aelita", in 1924 in which the glory of Communism is brought to the poor benighted Martians.

And I was going to mention that even Marvin the Martian had landed before 1951.

last 2 dvds: Bakushu (1951) & Ten (2002)

The Man from Planet X (1951) was one of the earliest. It has more of an early 40's feel to it, with a very creepy, non-human alien. Not a bad story. I think there were even earlier ones, but they seemed to have aliens that looked identical to humans (Flash Gordon, Aelita, etc). The Day the Earth Stood Still was 1951, but featured a "human" alien, so I'm not sure that fits in with the spirit of your question.

In a Hollywood effort,

The Purple Monster Strikes (1945) deserves a mention.

Aliens from Mars come to Earth to prepare for a full invasion. They kill Earthlings and take over and reanimate the corpses. The aliens are presented in strange costumes and odd makeup, but are recognizably human. They are not "monsters" in appearance.

Deserves credit for the first appearance of the aliens take over Earthlings and pass as Earthlings plot idea which, of course, became the basis of many later sci-fi classics.

But, being a serial, there is no depth. It is just a premise to set up the action scenes, which are mainly the usual for Republic serials of the time. The aliens carry out their schemes by hiring Earthling gangsters to do the dirty work, so much of the serial is the usual fist and gun fights.
