Reviewing Season Three

After revisiting the first two seasons, watching eps I enjoy, along with shows I rarely watch, I have moved on to season three. Since this is my very favorite season, and I like them all, I just picked two I rarely watch, not because I dislike them, but I just happen to find them my personal least faves.

Ricky's Old Girlfriend

Ricky Minds the Baby

"Girlfriend" is a very strong offering, but I tend to avoid it, as its theme of marital infidelity somehow hits too close to the real Arnaz/Ball issues, with opposite results. That's the only reason I can think of as to why it's not a "go-to" ep for me. Weird, as the personal lives of the cast (including the pregnancy) don't otherwise affect my viewing of the series.

My problem with "Ricky Minds the Baby" is due to its odd pacing. The entire first HALF is the setup, so the storytelling is a bit wobbly for me. It doesn't help that the joke of Ricky telling "Little Red Riding Hood" in Spanish runs out of steam before the scene ends. Again, a fun ep, but for me, the fun doesn't really begin until the long-awaited second half.

Tonight, I begin season four...with "Mertz and Kurtz."

"RIcky Minds the Baby" is an okay episode. I do like his bedtime story. But the first half of the episode IS a long setup.

I just see this episode as out of character for Lucy. There's no other time where she's upset when someone else is watching the baby. She has no problem shipping him off to elderly Mrs. Trumbull. But for some reason, she's worried that Ricky won't be able to take care of his own son?

Many times Lucy walks in the door and only asks a perfunctory, "How's the baby?"

Very good point, PJ! I never thought of that.
