An excellent entry in the undercover cop genre

There is plenty to enjoy in Undercover Girl. It could have been an ordinary procedural, but Joseph Pevney, assisted by Harry Essex's script, make this one really memorable. Tension is built up right from the get go and doesn't let up until the very end, and there are many little touches that make this one stick out: characters going to watch a game of Basque pelota instead of the usual races or fights, gunshots through a letter, a henchman with a neckbrace contraption... Watch for Connie Gilchrist as Alexis Smith's tough and wise superior, in just one of the stand out parts in this movie. If you liked this one, check out The True Story of Lynn Stuar( (1958), another excellent entry in the genre.
