the one person I can think of that is living the Norma Desmond life ...is, ... well Madonna.... Before Norma Desmon there were great Vaudeville and stage actresses... but apparently that didn't matter ... because no one photographed, filmed or recorded them... 'until the motion pictures became a money making industry.....
The same way the Video Industry (Mtv, YouTube, Internet...) started recording musicians....
Norma = 55yr promoting a 17year old part, living with an ex and going after a 26year old....
Madonna = 56yr dancing like a 17year old, hanging with an ex, with a 26 year old boyfriend...
all them other great actresses you mention are between the ages of 65 to 82!!! :o
Lindsay Lohan is sort of a real life Norma Desmond as well. She is completely washed up, desperate for work, a sad looking has-been, a ghost of the America's Sweetheart lady she once was...yet she still thinks of herself as this in demand A-lister. She is constantly bragging about all the meetings she is having and all the movies she is being offered...but she hasn't had anything to show for it since 2007. She has gone from starring in big studio films and working with big name actors and directors...to doing cameos on TV shows for a single episode, starring in B movies that premiere on TV or go straight to DVD, and doing quick two minute cameos in random movies. Her career went into a free-fall and now it's pretty much over.
She's still somewhat wealthy compared to the average person, she dresses in expensive designer clothes, she wears heavy makeup and lives in a big house, her voice is extremely raspy, she chain-smokes cigarettes all the time, she's a hardcore alcoholic and drug addict...plus, she might be only 28, but she looks like she's in her mid 40s to be quite honest.
She has mental problems...the court has ordered her to undergo intense psychotherapy and counseling numerous times.
She has a criminal history and has been in and out of jail.
She is surrounded by an entourage of "yes men" who go along with her delusions of her fame because she throws money at them and they know that she is so fragile and she would fly off the handle if they told her the reality of her life.
I'm not saying Lindsay Lohan should play Norma Desmond, but rather she kind of is a real life version of her.
Faye Dunaway was fired from the musical because she couldn't sing (the producers probably should have found that out before they hired her ) so if she did a film remake she might feel vindicated but for the audience it would probably be like watching Mommie Dearest II.
Rescue the damsel in distress, whip the bad guy, save the world.
You mention a lot of French actresses, which doesn't really make sense. French actresses tend to become more in demand and revered as they get older. Total opposite of Hollywood.
Norma was a nearly forgotten silent movie star, about twenty-two years after the end of the silent film period. So imagine an actress who was big around 2003 and nearly forgotten now.
