Who Clapped?

Something compelled me to, even though I was sitting completely by myself. And it was quite a moving experience to see these characters from 60 years ago respond to me in my own living room Now that I've seen the movie, I'll probably never have the same experience again, but for a brief moment I believed that it was all very real.

I didn't clap. But that's because I was sitting at home and taking notes on the film for a piece I'm writing. Had I been in a theater, I would have clapped. Especially if nobody else did.

reply

Yes and I will upon rewatching. I loved the film and think parts are genius. I could see where many parts have been stolen and redone, in more modern films.

I thought of American Beauty and the plastic bag scene, when I saw the wind stirring the leaves in the amphitheater, for instance.

Gimme a fish and I'll clap my fins off...

No, I didn't. I didn't hate the movie but I did it find a bit uneven and overly sentimental.

reply

I didn't. A shame. I thought it was the best pre-Mifune film up to that point. That pretty much derailed it.
