My favorite line in the film comes toward the beginning when when Stanwyck's editor comes to her small New York flat to tell her about Greenstreet's plan for her to invite Morgan to Christmas dinner at her "farm" to which Stanwyck replies "Farm? I haven't even got a windowbox!" I've seen the film many, many times, yet this line never fails to make me laugh. Anyone else have a favorite line?
Elizabeth Lane: Suppose you listen to me for a change?... I said listen to me! I'm tired of being pushed around. Tired of being told what to do. Tired of writing your god-darned articles. Tired of dancing to everybody else's tune. Tired of being told whom to marry. In short... I'm tired!
Alexander Yardley: Why, that's strange. He looks different this morning. Elizabeth Lane: Wouldn't you look different if you'd swallowed a watch? Alexander Yardley: But he's a blonde, has teeth, and he talks. Elizabeth Lane: Mr. Yardley, this is no time to take inventory!
I agree when she changes her tone at the end of her little rant and says in a different tone I'm tired it is like she is coming out of character which is the subject of the rant.
Did anyone notice when the cook who gives her the recipes in NYC says his restaurant is around the corner he is making an homage to shop around the corner which he is in.
