The Eternal Dilemma – Is She Old Enough?

Some posters object to the fact that a 14-year old is in love with an adult man. It is the Eternal Dilemma between natural and society. Nature says she’s ready, she thinks she’s ready, but society says she’s not. Let’s face it, young human hormones start way too early. It must go back to antiquity when life expectancy was around 30 and they had to start early. The Age of Consent laws go back to 1200’s England when it was set at 12. Believe it or not, in 1880 the age in most U.S. states was 10 or 12, except for Delaware which was 7. Today it varies in the states from 16 to 18. Most states go as low as 13 as long as the male is three or four years or less older than the female. My solution is to develop some kind of shot that suppresses the hormones at least until 18!

I find the idea of a 14 year with an adult man creepy. But.... I had relatives 100 years ago who married adult men when then were around 14-15. There are such shots that suppress hormones, but they also interfere with adult development.

On the topic of this movie-- Joan Fontaine looks plenty old enough. But then he is a 26 year old woman acting like a 14 year old. She could have a face off with GInger Rogers in The Major and the Minor.
