Has anyone been to or lived in Kansas? What's it like?
I've never been so just curious.
shareI drove through it. It's the flattest place I've ever seen and since it's so flat, it feels like an infinity of nothing. Driving along the highway surrounded by nothing but flat land and sky as far as the eye could see became unnerving. I felt extremely vulnerable to the world like I was drowning. Even the populated areas were depressing to me. Kansas' agriculture serves a major purpose to our country and I appreciate it and Kansans from that perspective, but I have no desire to ever go back.
shareAnd to those of us from the Plains, (I'm from Nebraska, but in most areas its just as flat) can find other areas of the country claustrophobic. It all depends on what you're used to.
I love visiting other parts of the country (and if I had the funds I would go overseas), but I would not want to live anywhere else.
You're absolutely right. It's all relative to what you're accustomed to.
Great balls of fire!...*hiccup*...It's Rhett!
Well said. There really is no place like home.
shareI have family there. It's, for lack of a better word, normal. Not a tornado in sight (though my cousin did tease me a bit).
shareNope i have never been or lived there
shareI have family in Wichita. I visit twice a year, once for Christmas, and once after storm chasing (based in OKC). It's flat, but beautiful, and pretty much like most other Midwestern states. And its people are wonderful!
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
Lived here all my life. Never seen a tornado. It's not flat where I live north of Kansas City. Cold in the winter. Hot in the summer. Low crime rate. Low cost of living.
Forever Royal
Yes. Lots of my older family (both my parents were from MIssouri though I am fom SoCal) and I've been to Atchinson, Tokea and Santa Fe! (LOL) !
shareKansas is also known for its weird, inconsistent weather patterns. Especially during the winter - it will range from very cold to 40-50 degree weather, sometimes 60's. Snowing is very infrequent depending on the year. We'll have nice autumns and very cold autumns. And during the summer it's very humid on top of being very hot, so going into the shade won't help very much.
shareKansas is also famous for being near the heart of Tornado Alley. Many people in Kansas have to kiss their homes goodbye in the spring, due to hailstorms busting through their roofs or cars, or twisters sucking their houses away.
